I agree with James Baldwin’s article, which is that everybody deserves to have their point of view in life and be able to explore things on their own. I agree with James’ definition of education which is to create in a person the ability to look at the world for himself. This is something profound cause there are people in this world who are oppressed and aren’t allowed to speak about their opinions or viewpoints. James not only mentions having your point of view but also many social topics such as oppression, racism, and communism, which is something great as a writer when trying to grab the eye of a reader. What James meant by the: world is larger.” is that compared to all the world problems that have happened and are happening, America’s history is tiny compared to the world.
Schools need to realize that what they are teaching kids and teens will not be helpful in many real-life situations. For instance, basic math is all you need in real-life precalc, and those complicated three-step thinking problems aren’t used in real life. Schools must start developing topics that motivate students to go to class and teach boring things that will destroy their motivation to learn. Teaching things about finance will serve as something positive as kids and teens start to grow older. Schools need emotional support for kids and teens because many students don’t go home to a safe and healthy environment; kids should be able to feel safe where they’re learning and escaping from their harsh reality. I want these things to happen so people can have fun while learning and love to go to school. Also, this would create a significant impact on societies and school communities.
