One generic idea I have for my unit essay is how the COVID-19 pandemic had affected me. Educational-wise, it really shed light on my awful work ethic and tendency to be distracted. I ended up doing really poorly in my classes for that year. Mentally, it fed into my bad and unhealthy habits, which just made everything harder for me. I feel like because of the pandemic my social skills just plummeted. Currently, I’m still recovering from that loss.
When I was in third grade, my family and I had discovered that I was half-deaf. This, of course, affected my education in ways I didn’t even know. We set up an individualized education program (IEP) to get the necessary assistance in order to make I’m not falling behind in school. Throughout elementary, middle, and some of high school, I received technological assistance and speech classes.
I’m glad I can say that college has really changed me for the better, even though not even a month has passed yet. My work ethic has improved due to how seriously I take it. I feel like I’m happier because I’m not stuck in my room all day and I get to breathe in the fresh air. Independence is something I was really lacking before, but I feel like college life has been teaching me how to take care of myself and manage everything on my own. I’m pretty proud that I’m doing well so far and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
