Value-Added Portraits: Phase 4

In this project I learned about how to create narrow low and high key values. as well as broad value out of a black and white picture. In this project I feel that getting the values correct were the hardest part of the project but over all the project was really fun and interesting to do.

Phase 1: Discover, Phase 2: Define, Phase 3: Develop

Work time: 6hrs

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 1

Low key

In this picture the over powering darkness is what makes this a low key. It sets a lighter mood , because of the object in the picture. Although it is dark the books bring out a studious feeling so it is not much like the horror movie going on in the picture below.

High key

This picture is high key because of its lights that light up the room. Although I would say the lighting sets up a creepy, mysterious feeling as if you where in a horror movie.

The contrast between the darker spots in this picture is what brings out its mysterious mood.

Work time : 2 hours

Sound Visualizations: Phase 3

This is a link to my video

Dbaigorria-Mashup.mp4

My video is 10 seconds long , the songs I chose where River Flows In You by Yiruma andĀ Beethoven’s 5 Secrets – One Republic (Cello Orchestral Cover) by ThePianoGuys. The hardest part in the project for me was creating the animation because I couldn’t get the hang of it, but once I did it was somewhat easier. I worked 4 hours on this phase.

Field Trip to BRIC

Title: Flags, Held Aloft, 1997

Artist: Max Kozloff

Mediums: From the West indian Carnival, Brooklyn series

Throughout the gallery i really enjoyed looking at this photograph because it showed people celebrating their culture and showing it of to the world. I can relate because in my country we would do the same thing. Sometimes we would put on events right outside our houses to celebrate our culture or even celebrate holidays. What i really like about this picture and i can also relate is the people coming together to celebrate and have fun.

Sound Visualization: Phase 1

The song starts off with a soft dim melody giving of the feeling of a spiral circling around repeatedly, symbolizing the light piano strokes . As the piano strokes become deeper and bolder the spiral comes to and end, and becomes replaced by horizontal lines moving in a circular motion to keep the rhythm going. As the song reaches its chorus the once dim melody changes to a more luminous rhythm because of the violin and drum set added to the melody. This causes the horizontal lines to become vertical. As the chorus comes to an end the melody reverts back to it dim and gloomy feeling and changes back to horizontal lines.

This pattern repeats itself over and over again until before it reaches the end of the song. That is where the melody and piano strokes start to speed up becoming sharper vertical lines that radiate from the gloomy horizontal lines becoming a bright and luminous melody. This observation helped me understand the artist’s intentions towards the meaning of the song because the artist wants to display a meaning of hope. The artist wants the listener to know that even though many difficult and gloomy experiences happen in life there is alway light and happiness reaching out to you out there.

Song: Flares by The Script

I spent four hours working on this part of the project.
