Technology Access and Requirements

Note: While the below information is not required to be included on the syllabus, it can help answer some of the common questions that students have at the beginning of the semester.

Table of Contents

Email

All communications related to classes and other activities at the College take place via City Tech email. If students do not know their City Tech email login information, they can go to the email and claim their account. If they need additional help with setting up their City Tech email, please direct them to contact the Help Desk at 718-260-4900 or via email. They may also go to L-114 (first floor of the Library Building).

Internet Access

To access the on-line component of their classes (such as the gradebook, readings, etc.), students will need a digital device with a minimum of a 56k modem or high-speed Internet access. Make sure they are using Firefox 3.0x or later or Internet Explorer 8 or higher browsers. JavaScript, Java, and Cookies must be enabled and pop-up windows should be allowed. Please note that Chrome and Safari are not supported.

It is helpful to provide the link to the Technology Services website on the syllabus so that the students know where to get help.

Support

OpenLab and Blackboard are the most widely used virtual classrooms in the Social Science Department. Information on technical support can be found on the Student Technology Services website. Students can also sign up for Blackboard training workshops.

Additional support is provided in the Computer Lab G600 itec@citytech.cuny.edu or by calling (718) 254-8565.
