Blog Entry # 3: Resume Revisions and Job Search

Professor Tanya Goetz invited me to her Asynchronous Zoom Meeting on September 11 to discuss her feedback on my Resume Layout. Like my Portfolio Professor, Eli Neugerboreum, critiqued my Resume Layout organized I had last semester, Spring 2024. The left column needed more space because it was tight and needed more white space. Also, the leading on the headers for the Experience Row between the green border and the body text description is tight; I increased the vertical space by dragging the green border and minimizing the size of my Full Name. The same thing between the two to three sentences of my summary about my experiences or bulleted lists of my skills to help any hiring manager reviewing my resume easier to read. With little Experience in Graphic Design Jobs, Professor Tanya Goetz suggested moving the entire Education section above my Experience. She uses one of her previous student’s resume as a great example of her layout.

Blog Entry # 2: Updating LinkedIn and Handshake Profiles

On Wednesday, September 4th, Week 2’s class was switched to Asynchronous due to Professor Tanya Goetz’s diagnosis of laryngitis. However, my next task is to update my LinkedIn account while searching for any graphic design internships that are looking for motion design, illustration, advertising, or campaign interns. Like our ePortfolios and resumes, updating your LinkedIn or Handshake profiles is essential when applying for future jobs. I updated both my LinkedIn and Handshake accounts with some revisions to my skills category and my summary about myself as a creator. I am determined to pursue a career in illustration/graphic design. Multitasking is another step to improve, and so is managing my schedule to make it more flexible for remote or hybrid work.

Aside from the Internship, in Design Team, I am working on three to five concept sketches and writing a Creative Brief for PS 133’s Garden of Wonders Organization for their Five Poster Designs. One is Permanent, and the other Four are Seasonal. My group and I are excited to work on these Poster projects for our clients from PS 133’s Garden of Wonders because of spreading awareness of flourishing more Native Plants to help protect our native species, such as honey bees, butterflies, and birds before our ecosystem deteriorates and we will go extinct as they do. This will allow me to collaborate effectively with my Future Team and help me update my resume that I can Collaborate with other Designers.

Blog Entry #1: Internship Search

Searching for Internships can be scary for me because I lack Job experience other than Graphic Design/Illustration, and this is my last semester before I graduate this December. I was browsing for Internships that require remote work on Linkedin, Handshake, or the COMD Internship Coordination Openlab Site. But there’s one thing I still need that’s part of their Job Requirements: a Cover Letter. Some jobs/internships don’t require a Cover letter, but many Graphic Design Jobs require a short cover letter discussing why the company should hire you as a Graphic Designer. Even though I haven’t had any luck with remote internships yet, I shall keep searching until I find one and discuss where I found this Internship and why I selected it for Illustrations, Advertising Campaigns, or Motion Design.

Form Web Design

For my Volunteer form, I made a mock-up Volunteer submission form for the Prospect Heights Hospital for those who are interested in volunteering for healthcare for pets or for that who are interested in adoptions. With the help of label input elements for the email, First and Last Name, This element allows creating a text input to type in your information and your email. Also, for the species input selection, I define it with a radio-type input to give out a checkbox for those who own a cat or a dog. And for those who selected other species besides the first two, I use the text input element <input type=” text” and call it “other” for the name and id menu, but like the email, It must include the placeholder. While the interest and the “How did you hear about us” part, the select label elements provide a drop-down list, and I give off 5 or 4 option value elements inside the drop-down list so that others can select many different kinds of answers. For the favorite color, I use the <input type=” color,”> with value element included to define the color wheel, and you can select the color of your choice from the color wheel.

Project 10, Embedding Images

with the help of this website, https://imagecompressor.com/ allows me to reduce the size of the images for my thumbnail, mid-size, and large size with a source without worrying about the troubles of reducing it through photoshop. After compressing the images, I used the HTML image tag with a source and an alt tag to describe the correct image information.

Film Poster

For my Final Project that im currently working on for my Illustration 1 this semester, I was creating a Film Illustration poster based on the documentary March of the Penguins, which was released Thirteen years ago. I created a landscape where these five emperor penguins are on their way to the sea to dive in for food. While taking precaution against their predators who lives under the sea. This movie is based on their daily lives and what emperor penguins do to survive in an icy and harshest continent on Earth, Antarctica.
