A scale indicating how percent grades correspond to letter grades

Grading scheme

Your overall course grade will come from the following components

  • 10% WeBWorK
  • 10% Participation
  • 20% Term test #1
  • 20% Term test #2
  • 20% Term test #3
  • 20% Final exam

WeBWorK (10%)

WeBWorK is an online homework platform. Due dates are posted on WebWork. If complete the homework late, you can earn 50% credit. Answers must be submitted by the following Monday night at 11:59pm.

Participation (10%)

Staying engaged in your class is critical for success. Each time you engage in one of the following activities, you will earn one participation point. Your participation grade will be the number of points you earn out of 20.

  • Participating in classroom discussions
  • Entrance and Exit Tickets
  • Attending student office hours
  • Attending tutoring (for programs that provide attendance)
  • Using the WeBWorK Ask for Help feature
  • Other options for earning participation credit may be available later in the semester.

Term tests (20% each)

You will take four term tests during the semester.

No make-up tests will be given; any student who has an excused absence from a test will have each of the other tests count for more toward their final grade. For an absence to be excused, the student must seek approval from the The Center for Student Accessibility (the instructor cannot excuse an absence). If a student has more than one excused absence from a test, arrangements with their instructor must be made ASAP.

The lowest test score will be dropped.

Approximate test dates:

  • Test #1: September 30 (Week 5)
  • Test #2: October 28 (Week 9)
  • Test #3:November 20 (Week 13)
  • Test #4: December 11th (Week 16)

Final exam (20%)

The final exam is cumulative. The final exam review sheet is available here.

  • Final exam on all topics, taken in class on (Week 17)
