The Writing Center is having a pop up event Tues and Wed

Hi Students,

Here is a message from Professor Franklin, the head of the The Writing Center. This event sounds nice and I want to pass it along:

Our team in the Writing Center are thrilled to announce: ā€œPresentation and Papers Pop-Upā€, a two-day tutoring event onĀ Tuesday (11/28) and Wednesday (11/29) from 12-2pm on the Library Building Ground Floor. This event is designed to support students working on any written assignment and will also cater to students seeking to refine the content of a speech or presentation.

To receive a 15-minute tutoring session, students are invited to walk-up or reserve a spot using this link:Ā https://forms.office.com/r/mGB1cLPfc9

FINAL SPEECHPRESENTATION TUTORING

from:

Joseph Franklin, PhD

Assistant Professor & Writing Center Director

English Department

New York City College of Technology

Chances are, you will want to work with a tutor for more than 15 minutes! However, this time of year, it can be hard to get an appointment, so walk in and sign up and see what they have to say. -ss

What the AI thinks we look like (plus have a good TG break)

Hi class,

I tried to generate an image of “LeBron playing basketball with Jesus in the style of the Mona Lisa” just like you wanted, but it blocked my prompt yet again, saying that such content was unacceptable. I wanted you to know that I didn’t forget.

(Btw: If you didn’t already know, you can create AI images, not only with Dall-E in Chat GPT, but with via other places, for instance, Microsoft’s Bing: Image Creator from Microsoft Designer (bing.com) )

Today, I went on to create with the AI from two more prompts. Here is what the AI gave me for ā€œstudents in a college english class having a lucid dream about passing the semester successfully and beautifully with unicorns and birthday cakes in the style of animeā€:

and here is what the AI gave me for ā€œstudents in a college english class sitting in a circle talking about what they did that morning with early morning light and vivid and pleasing colorsā€:

and, btw, I did create citations for both in proper MLA Style. I had some questions on how to do it, so I asked a Librarian Online for help. He helped me in 24-hour chat, just as fast as a bot.

So, we talked about a lot this last week — difficult stuff — and no, we didn’t look like any of the above pictures, but I just want to say before Thanksgiving break how grateful I am to have you as my students. I really enjoy our class; I really enjoy you guys. And hey, I just used a semicolon.

For Next Class (Thursday)

Today, during class, you listed various platforms that are your ā€œgo toā€™sā€ for inspiration, entertainment, informationā€¦

For discussion during next class (Thursday): Please pick

one________________ [fill in the blank ā€“ for instance: YouTuber; Instagram person or cause whom you follow; TikTok influencer; Twitch streamerā€¦] Ā that you like from one of these platforms and be prepared to tell us: What do you like about them? Why do you keep coming back to this one place? What makes it effective?

I also handed out hard copies of the UNIT 3 Capstone Assignment. As you can see, it is due in less than 10 days. Please read through it and ask questions next class. We will continue to talk about the UNIT 3 project and how to approach it.

And finally, the semicolon award goes to (I believe it was George) for: “I need a job; I’m too lazy.”
