Next Stop Parkchester! Bronx, New York, March 2016, Raul Valenzuela

image I took this picture on March 4, 2016 at 3:46pm. I was heading home from work that Friday evening and I decided to take this picture, on the 6 train, Bronx bound approaching Parckchester while the train was moving. I love how I capture this shot and the effect I used called Light Flare to enhance the lighting in this picture. I love how the yellowish circle shades varies its shape and color but contemplate each other. Although the train was in motion, it seems like the train had stopped for a second, or like if I was standing on the train tracks to take this picture. The shades of the buildings and cars on the floor resembling a video game I used to play when I was a kid called Tetris, this brought me memories of my childhood. Lastly, my eyes was captivated by the graffiti on the building giving it a bit of art and adding a diverse look to this neighborhood.

Northern Blvd Looking Toward Manhattan

Northern Blvd Looking Toward Manhattan

Northern Blvd Looking Toward Manhattan

I took this photo on early monday morning, in the middle of Northern Blvd, looking west is Manhattan.  As horrible as it was to wake up on a monday, this is the view I see whenever I leave the house. The view in itself isn’t that great, you can even see the purple pollution but everytime I see this view it makes me feel something I can’t describe. It’s almost like the road is leading to a far away city in the background. I especially like the view at night When I go home. The skyscrapers and the Empire State Building in the far distance lights up then the street lights lighting the road, the lights of cars while driving. Sometimes I would just stand there and stare in awe.

The View From Work

"Save the Fashion District on 37th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue" March 2016

“Save the Fashion District on 37th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue” March 2016

For this assignment, I chose to photograph the outside view from my job.  It is very much fashion related in its totality.  All the offices and store fronts that are displayed in the photo are related to fashion one way or another.  From the Botani Zipper shop to the office with the very comical “save the fashion district” sign facing out from their window.  Even the light post on the block proudly presents a garment district sign.  The photo was taken late afternoon, with enough sunlight out so that the light post could still be off.  I chose this location not only because it is so familiar and comforting to me, but also because of its written symbols pertaining to fashion.

Brooklyn Bridge-Lover’s Padlocks, 2016, Jasmine Torres

20160304_195049Living in New York we can easily justify our city’s classification as the “melting pot” of societies.  Our diversity has not only provided the presence of multiple cultures but also the knowledge and traditions that come with practicing each. The tradition of securing a symbol of love in public, or to a bridge and tossing the keys into the river below, date back to earlier years in Europe. The photograph contains left behind padlocks from couples in or visiting New York. The sun is out reflecting off the East River and metallic locks. I was walking with my friend, Meagan, and saw an older couple reading the dates inscribed on each representation of one’s commitment and I began to grow curious. What I find special about the picture is the view of the city buildings, although New York is so fast paced I appreciated seeing people take the time to do something so sincere, displaying an emotion that can subject one to vulnerability. And because this tradition originated in Europe it was nice to see signs of our cities cultural integration. I used a filter on this shot to avoid viewers from being drawn to any bright colors and to create a uniform affect.

Backyard Photo #2

12670798_779257698885482_6527690182744131546_n

This photo is a similar photo to the other black and white photo, except taken a few months ago during summer. The sky is the most prominent aspect of the photo, as is the saturated colors and dark greens of the flora in the backyards. It gives off a very rich vibe, and the extremely interesting sky patterns make everything else in the photo seem more enticing. This photo actually is getting published in an online publication called the Brownstoner thanks to my friend Hannah who saw me post it on Facebook.

Backyard Photo #1

12804308_781111098700142_570785002_n

I took this photo from my backyard around 3 days ago at 3pm. I meant the photo to look very dreary and dark, almost like an old 1970s era NYC photo, so I set the filter on black and white and messed with the saturation a bit. In the photo there is a row of Brownstones on the left, with the roofs forming a nice straight line with a horizon. On the right side of the photo is a 4 story brick apartment building, rising above the other Brownstones. The sky is clear, and you can easily see trail marks from airplanes in the sky.

New York Winter Lights

New York, Manhattan, Down Town, One World Trade Center

New York, Manhattan, Down Town, One World Trade Center

I’m kind of person who likes photos and takes too much memories. Since I came to New York I found that this city is one of the most beautiful cities that worth to take pictures. I can take like 10 pictures every time I go to Manhattan and the 10 will not be the same. This picture I took it on December 2015. In that day I was walking in the city especially “Down Town” talking some pictures for the high buildings and then I find myself in this beautiful place between lights that decorate the trees, but I was by my self and I can’t mis this view without talking a picture inside that view. Almost there was no one walks in the street at this cold weather, so fortunately I had my camera stand and the bluetooth remote with me in this time. So I put the cam on the stand and mange the view and on the second that I want to capture the picture I used my remote but I was hiding it in my long sleeves. I took three or four pictures until I get the perfect moment. I’m so proud of this picture as after that I found it looks like a professional photograph that somebody else took it for me!

Peace of Snow

IMAG0214

I took this picture while I was waiting for the 7 train at Woodside 61st Street. While I was waiting I noticed this scenery. It may look gloomy and/or sad to most. But for me I find it quite peaceful and quiet, which I like. The gray clouds makes everything seem calm and the snow which were on top of the buildings makes it look nice to see, i sight one does not see everyday. This may have looked better if it was snowing during the time I took this picture. I find this to be beautiful and it gives off a peaceful vibe which I hope I’m not only one who feels this way.

Beauty and Peace 2016

Beauty and Peace

I captured this photo on march 5, 2016 at my house in upstate New York. It was beautiful outside, so I decided to ride my ATV and thought to myself, “What a beautiful day.” I stopped to take a picture of what I think of when I think about our beautiful planet Earth. I believe this picture expresses both beauty and peacefulness. This photo is facing North towards Oneonta. I love how my phone captured the ray of the sun; I believe that it makes the photo look more beautiful than what it really is. To me, this is true beauty and peace.
