“Fort Greene Dreams” Revised

“Fort Greene Dreams” is a short story about a man named Nelson, which shows us his transition from living in Jamaica Queens to going back to his home town Brooklyn in a new neighborhood called Fort Greene. He is a very well known writter and producer for the African American culture. His new life in Fort Greene, 19 Willoughby Avenue which was way more luxurious and lavish than when he use to live in Brownsville. Nelson saw alot of the negative and illegal part of life in Brownsville, he experinced the crack era when the drug dealing in the streets was very high, also he would watch crimes take place infront of him. We also learn of many celebrities and atheletes that came out of Brooklyn and inspired him as a kid and later on as a succsesfull producer. We really see how much a neighborhood can influence a person and either send them in the direction of great accomplishments or failure. What I like is that he is very humble, and recognozes himself as another kid that made something out of nothing. Along with that we learn he help fund and work on a project with a very well known who we all know as Spike Lee. Finally this showed me that no matter your surroundings you can always succeed and if you like what you are doing you will be happy, and make alot of money as well which is always a plus, so to me is to never forget where you come from.
