We’ll begin our readings on the Brooklyn Bridge with “The Brooklyn Bridge” by Phillip Lopate (Dwell 244-252). This essay will certainly include some challenging vocabulary , so be sure to add your word or words to the glossary.
Please also read the Prologue section of Alan Trachtenberg’s book, Brooklyn Bridge: Fact and Symbol on pages three and four.
Write a post about how either Lopate or Trachtenberg depicts the bridge–what kind of descriptions, information, or analysis do they offer? What kind of research do you think they did to write either piece?
You might also consider what about the two photographs included with Lopate’s essay stands out, and how they compare to the photograph on the cover of Trachtenberg’s book.
