Suzie (2013-2014 QR Fellow at City Tech) is currently a doctorial candidate in the Earth and Environmental Science Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering Science from the University of Florida and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Florida Institute of Technology. Before making the move to New York City she worked for four years as a Stormwater Specialist for the Watershed Management Program in Brevard County, Florida. During this time she became increasingly intrigued by the connections between pollution, policy, and the general public. What better place to study these relationships than New York City; enter college, round three. Suzie’s current research aims to highlight and quantify the role the public can play in mitigating pollution from stormwater and combined sewage overflows to local city waters. She is using the Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site located in Brooklyn, NY as a case study for her project. As a QR Fellow Suzie has put her skills to work designing real world data based projects with a focus on the New York City region. These projects utilize data that has been made publically available by the City; project topics include public health, climate change, water quality, and education.
