Time Management

Most students in our days they want to learn online. Students like to learn online because of the benefits online like flexibility, broader perspectives, and improved collaboration. It is hard for students to balance out their day especially if they are new to online classes. In order to have an easier time to balance everything out is to use time management. Time management is that you manage your time to reach your goals in a easier way. People get confused on time management because they think that it is about how much time you have but it is about how you manage it. In the article it shows you six steps that students could use tips for time management. The way that I want to improve my time management is that I want to have a set time to do my work for my classes at night and also have time to take a break from a long day. Another way is to not be distracted by my phone or anything else when I am working on my school work. In order to improve my time management I want to make sure that I know when all my assignments are due so I could put them on a calendar so I could see what days that I want to do them.

Conclusion A.B

In my conclusion my research question was about health problems soldiers have after they are deployment. In my research I found articles of similar topics about my research question. The three articles that I discovered are 1) Mental health problems, use of mental health services, and attrition from military service after returning from deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan. 2) “Army Warrior Care Project (AWCP): Rationale and methods for a longitudinal study of behavioral health care in Army Warrior Transition Units using Military Health System data, FY2008–2015” 3) “Longitudinal Assessment of Mental Health Problems Among Active and Reserve Component Soldiers Returning from the Iraq War”. The main thing I was surprised about was how many soldiers that come back from deployment and could not get the proper help for health care. After reading the articles I changed my thinking because I did not know how many soldiers that do not get treated for their health. This is really important for people to know because soldiers are suffering with health problems and we need to know this so we could give them the proper care that they need. In my opinion everyone should know about these findings because this will show us, we need to do something about this problem.

Some Soldiers that returned from the Iraq War had metal health problems. In the article they study how much soldiers need health care. The objective was that they wanted to measure the mental health needs among soldiers returning from Iraq and the association of screening with mental health care utilization. They studied the soldier’s health by using Post-Deployment Health Assessment and a Post-Deployment Health Re-Assessment. The article says that they took a Population-based, longitudinal descriptive study of the initial large cohort of 88 235 US soldiers returning from Iraq who completed both a Post-Deployment Health Assessment (PDHA) and a Post-Deployment Health Re-Assessment (PDHRA) with a median of 6 months between the 2 assessments. The main outcome was that they had posttraumatic stress disorder, major depression, alcohol misuse, and other health problems. The soldiers had more cases of mental health because of this they were referred to significantly higher rates from the Post-Deployment Health Reassessment and from the Post-Deployment Health Assessment. The article says that Based on the combined screening, clinicians identified 20.3% of active and 42.4% of reserve component soldiers as requiring mental health treatment. They had concerns about the interpersonal conflict that it increased the 4-fold. The soldiers always reported the concerns of alcohol, but they were not a lot of soldiers that got referred to get alcohol treatment. The article says that Most soldiers who used mental health services had not been referred, even though the majority accessed care within 30 days following the screening. Although soldiers were much more likely to report PTSD symptoms on the PDHRA than on the PDHA, 49% to 59% of those who had PTSD symptoms identified on the PDHA improved by the time they took the PDHRA. There was no direct relationship of referral or treatment with symptom improvement. The authors conclusion was to Rescreen the soldiers for a several of months after they returned from Iraq and they identified a large cohort missed on initial screening. They reported more amounts of veterans that presented to Veteran Affairs facilities that seemed to exist within the months of coming back home that they need to enhance the military mental health care during this period. They also see an increase in relationship problems that underscore shortcomings in services for family members. The Reserve component soldiers who returned to be a civilian status were referred at higher rates on the Post-Deployment Health Reassessment, which could reflect their concerns about their ongoing health coverage. The lack of this may let soldiers with alcohol problems not want to access the treatment. My opinion is that the soldiers that come back from the Iraq war is that if they need to get treatment, they should get it easy and have no trouble at all so they could get the care that they need as fast as possible. The authors write the article good because they wrote it liked it really concerned them on what is going on and that they want to fix this problem and not let the soldiers suffer and get the care that they need. The authors credentials really show why they wrote this article on this topic. The authors writing style was good and it kept the readers interested the whole way threw and they explained it very easy. The purpose of this reading was because the authors want us to know what is happening to the soldiers on how they get their health care. The authors were credential because they gave you sources and studied the problem in the article. This is nonfiction because this happened in real life and it is a real problem that we deal with. The key quote is that Based on the combined screening, clinicians identified 20.3% of active and 42.4% of reserve component soldiers as requiring mental health treatment. They had concerns about the interpersonal conflict that it increased the 4-fold.

The army is where people go to if they want to protect their country and their family so they could have a normal life. The army is the best way to help protect where you live, and it is an honor to help make the country safer. The soldiers everyday train so they could be ready for their missions. The soldiers get up early and train so hard to get in shape to become well-trained soldiers so they could protect the place that they grew up in and love. When the soldiers come back from their missions they get injured physically or mentally like the common symptom is PTSD. In the article it says that there is a Warrior Transition Unit program is for specialized military co‐ located with major military treatment facilities providing a Triad of Care involving primary care physicians, case managers, and military leadership to soldiers needing comprehensive medical care and warrior transition Unit program describes the rationale and methods for studying behavioral health care in Warrior Transition Unit program and characterize soldiers assigned to Warrior Transition Unit program. They track and test U.S. Department of Defense Military Health System to look into the behavioral health problems and the service utilization form the soldiers that were assigned to Warrior transition Unit program after when they return from Afghanistan and Iraq deployments, FY2008–2015. In the article they research that WTU members (N = 31,094) comprised 3.5% of the AWCP cohort (N = 883,091). Almost all (96.5%) had one WTU assignment for a median of 327 days; 77.3% were assigned before deployment ended, ≤30 or >365 days post‐deployment; 59.4% had deployment‐related behavioral health diagnoses. Their conclusion for this is that they know there is an overwhelming amount of soldiers that had one assignment for almost a year. A substantial proportion of WTU soldiers use to have psychological impairment because of that this limited the amount of military duties. The article quotes that AWCP is the first study of redeployed soldiers assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit program and provides a unique opportunity to advance our understanding of behavioral health among soldiers needing comprehensive medical care after combat deployments. My opinion it is good that they have Warrior transition Unit program so they could have comprehensive medical care. We need to help the soldiers because they give up so much and risk their lives. When the soldiers are on the field, they see so much terrible things like, dead friends, killing people, body parts and more. When some soldiers come back from deployment they deal with problems like mental health or physical injuries and more.  The authors are good at showing us the problems and trying to solve it and understand it. The authors explain the article very well and give you evidence that what they are writing about is true. The style of how they are writing is easy to understand and shows us what the authors want us to know.

The article says soldiers from the army when they are deployment they need to see if they need health care when they come back. The article gives us studies the army soldiers and marines that completed the post deployment health assessment between a period and when they return from the operation ensuring freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and other locations. The health care utilization and the occupational outcomes were measured after of one year of deployment. The reading studies all about the soldiers that need health care after Deployment. My opinion is that the soldiers should be able to have health care if they need it. The soldiers risk their lives for us so we could have lives. Some Soldiers that come back from deployment may be dealing with posttraumatic stress disorder, major depression, or other mental health problems. The health care will help them take care of these problems that they deal with. The authors credentials are good and detailed in the article. The authors writing style is easy to read and interesting. The authors purpose is Mental health problems, use of mental health services, and attrition from military service after returning from deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan. The authors are credible with what they are writing about. The author chose a good genre because it kept the audience engaged in the article. The fact that they talk about the soldier’s lifestyle when the soldiers come back after deployment is interesting. They also study the soldiers and make percentages of the studies of what is happening in the article like the prevalence of reporting a mental health problem was 19.1% among service members returning from Iraq compared with 11.3% after returning from Afghanistan and 8.5% after returning from other locations. Some of the soldiers have mental health problems because of combat experiences like seeing their friends die in front of them or seeing body parts flying everywhere and seeing explosions and hearing gun fire planes bombing buildings and more things. This will change you mentally and physically. In the article it says that 35 percent of Iraq war veterans accessed mental health services in the year after returning home; 12% per year were diagnosed with a mental health problem. More than 50% of those referred for a mental health reason were documented to receive follow up care although less than 10% of all service members who received mental health treatment were referred through the screening program. The soldiers need our help to get the health care they need.

Soldiers Health After war

Introduction:

my question is that What problems do the soldiers have after war? I chose this question because war is a bad place to be in. People want to protect their country so much that they would risk their own lives and health to protect their country and their families. This is heroic thing what they do to protect us so we could have normal lives. The soldiers give up their normal day routine and their lives. war is a horrible place to be because the soldiers are getting shot at by guns and by tanks and jets. The soldiers are in dangerous environments and are also exposed to chemicals that are not good for your body. They have to train and wake up at early hours every day with no breaks. They see horrible things like their family members and friends die before their eyes. when they see their friends or family members die they cant stop and cry to mourn they have to keep on fighting. The things that soldiers see is horrible and takes a toll on them to the point that even after they come back they don’t want to talk about it to anyone. Soldiers after they come back have problems with them like they have physical injuries, traumatized by the things they have seen, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, problematic alcohol use, and thoughts of suicide. I expect to find in my research is to go in depth of what really happens in the battle field. The soldiers give so much to us and we just ignore them and don’t appreciate what they have given up like their time and not living in their home and their lives. my research is to see how people help them with their problems when they come back. When the soldiers come back from war they get the health care that they need.

TRADITIONAL RESEARCH

The first thing I learned from Alexandria Lockett is that back then in order to do a research paper you had to go to the library. It was physical labor to go to the library you had to talk to a librarian to tell you where the books are that you are looking for and go threw books and books of research. In our days we don’t need to go to a library we could just go on our computer and search it on the web.

The second thing I learned is that even though we have the internet to help us make life easier it is also hard to find the right research you need. Finding the right research is hard because there is so much information they that they give you and this takes time for us to look threw all of it.

The third thing I learned is that technology is good for us because we could use this to help others with problems and teach people things online like vocabulary, science, literature and more.

Wikipedia Research

What I learned from the Wikipedia Research was that research is creative and it helps us develop a new understanding on what we are researching on. Research could even be work that you did in the past. Research is collecting data on the topic you are researching on.

The second thing I learned is that there are different types of research like scientific research, Historical research and more. Scientific research is like doing experiments and seeing what works and what doesn’t. This helps scientists to understand more on what they are researching on. Research helps for also history, business and other things.

The third thing I learned is that research is really important to do. If we never did any research on something we will never understand anything.

Intellectual Home

Prof. Sean Scanlan

English 1101

Draft: Essay 1

Intellectual home is when you have a place that you could focus and study in that place. My home is where I live. My home is a nice place to live. It has everything like a normal home would have like a kitchen, dining room, tv room, bathrooms, and bedrooms. My intellectual home is my room because it is easy for me to learn and focus. In my room I have a desk and computer to search up any research that I need, and I have enough space on my desk to put my books and learn or to also write notes. It is also quiet in my room so I could focus on what I am doing.

One of the stories that I liked in class was “Chronicles of a Once Pessimistic College Freshman,” by Bilal Rahmani. I liked bilal Rahmani story because I could relate to him. He just wanted to do his time in school and leave he did not care about making friends there or to even try to be social to others. He went to class and went home to do his homework. One day he went to English class. He was with his classmates discussing the short story, “Cat in the Rain,” by Ernest Hemingway. To Rahmani he was an amazing author. He thought that people in his class did not know Hemingway and was like I guess ill answer every question. In the end Rahmani found out that the other students started answering and giving new ideas that he did not even think of or know about. It took over him and he realized they were adding new colors and something that not alone that he could create. bilal Rahmani started liking City Tech. In this story bilal Rahmani intellectual home was City Tech. The second story that I liked was “Where I Learned to Read,” by Salvatore Scibona. He did his best to fail high school. He failed English literature, American literature, Spanish, precalculus, chemistry, physics. He even burned his report card in the sink of the KFC where he worked. Salvatore Scibona worked in KFC his job was scraping carbonized grease from the pressure cookers. Salvatore Scibona loved his job working at KFC.  Salvatore Scibona liked reading but when he was not assigned to do it, but he was a lost cause to himself. Early senior year a girl told him about this college. The college’s curriculum had no electives and not a single book in the seminar list by a living author. They had no tests or grades and no textbooks. This college was called St. John’s College. Salvatore Scibona went there in the end and loved the college. It felt like a vacation to him. He learned how to read, and he made friends there. Salvatore Scibona intellectual home was St. John’s College for him.

My intellectual home is different from bilal Rahmani and Salvatore Scibona. bilal Rahmani intellectual home was City tech college. Salvatore Scibona intellectual home was St. John’s College. My intellectual home is in my house in my room. I do share characteristics because I have a place to learn and for Salvatore Scibona and bilal Rahmani both have their spots to learn but there is in their colleges.

My educational experience that influenced my intellectual home is my parents because they taught me how to try hard and work hard. The way how to build your intellectual home is that you have more tools to help you build your intellectual home and to also keep on trying to learn and improve like your vocabulary, reading skills and more. These steps will build your intellectual home to be greater and stronger than it was before you started.

My learning experience is about how to work hard and try in school. When i was in eighth grade I never used to really try doing my homework or doing any work at all. I always hated school because I was getting forced from my parents to go. I just liked being at school because of my friends. Me and my friends used to cut class sometimes because we just thought it was a waste of time. It came close to my graduation and I had to start looking for a high school to go to. My parents wanted me to go to a private school just like my last school but this school was more series and I had no friends there so I didn’t want to go. I just wanted to stay with my friends. My parents had a talk with me about that you have to try more and to work hard because this is your future and life isn’t easy. I heard what they said and I kept on thinking about it. I realized that I should try and see how it is. I started trying towards the end of eighth grade and it wasn’t bad. I started get higher grades and in the end of the year I did pretty good. When I got in to my high school I was used to working and doing my homework and yea it was a lot more homework I got I just said I need to do it with full focus no exceptions. After school everyday I first did my homework and anything that I wanted to do after I could do. I was a good kid in high school and all the teachers liked me and know I came in to the class room to learn and nothing else. This was my learning experience after my parents had that talk with me I changed and realized I needed to try for myself because how can people help you if you don’t have interest in helping yourself.
