OpenLab assignment: time machine

Due Wednesday, December 18

Congratulations on making it to the end of the semester! Do you feel like a different person from who you were at the beginning of the semester??? You’re so much more knowledgeable and mature!

For this assignment, pretend you could get into a time machine and visit yourself from the beginning of the semester. (This is the other side of the back-to-the-future assignment you completed earlier in the semester.) What do you know now that you wish you knew then? Write a letter to deliver to your past self explaining how this semester went for you and how you figured out what it takes to succeed in this class. Include any tips you have for your past self and anything you wish you had done differently semester this semester. How would you motivate your past self to work hard for their upcoming 16 weeks? What do you want your past self to know about where you are now?

Submit your letter as a comment on this post. Your letters may be used for future students of this class!

You may submit your comment any time you like, but if you submit it by 11:59pm on the day of the final exam you will earn one more participation point.

Yes definitely I feel like this semester has been an intense journey of learning and personal development, and I believe I’ve acquired a much greater insight into the material specifically this calculus class , leading to increased confidence and maturity in my perspective.

    Dear past self

It has been a very interesting semester. We went through many ups and downs but we got through it. Something I know now that I wish I knew before is skimming through the chapter before class to understand the concepts. I also learned to do the web work right after the lecture to practice and understand everything. This semester I wish I could have found my studying techniques sooner into the semester. I would want my past self to know that even though last year we were struggling to keep up with the previous course, we are now able to understand things much better.

    Dear past self,

As the semester comes to its end, I’m thinking back on the hectic schedule of juggling five classes with labs it was 7 at once. Every course has offered different difficulties that have forced me to improve my time management and study techniques. I’ve appreciated the variety of topics and the chance to expand my knowledge in a number of areas, despite the stress. I’ve learned from this experience how crucial resilience and perseverance are while dealing with academic pressure. As I proceed through college, I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into practice.
