PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

My philosophy of nursing is to be the best patient advocate I can be while providing quality care that is specific for each patient. I see nursing as a profession that requires constant critical thinking in order to facilitate a healthier and more stable condition, as well as whatever goals providers may have set for them. Many patients cannot foresee what their conditions entail and what their best options are, and every patient is different. Nurses are the health care professionals who spend the most time with the patients and so we are in an opportune position to identify and foresee whatever their needs and risks may be, and it’s important to me that I be a patient advocate in this way.

My personal values and beliefs include always trying my best to understand where others are coming from, to be empathetic and caring, as well as honest and persistent. I believe my personal values and beliefs intertwine with nursing in regards to the relationships nurses have with their patients. Nurses need to be empathetic and caring with their patients as well as honest and persistent. It’s important to keep the commitments we make to our patients, our colleagues, and ourselves. By being honest, caring, empathetic, as well as knowledgeable, we can build trusting relationships with our patients and therefore provide them with the care they need as well as advocate for it.

Nursing is also a profession that requires continuing education and where learning is a lifelong process. The medical field is always changing and in order to provide patients with the best knowledge and be able to advocate for the appropriate care they need, nurses need to actively pursue additional education, insight, and experience. As a nurse it’s important to always be honest with patients about what I do or don’t know, and if there’s something I’m not sure of, that I retrieve the information for my patients. My mission is to always try my best to provide quality care for my patients, be empathetic and caring, keep the commitments I make, and keep learning about changes and advances in the medical field so that ultimately I can be the best patient advocate.
