It is well accepted that breaches appear between learned ethical and theoretical principles and actual practice within clinical service. In terms of public health, the conflicts generated by challenging claimants and the contradictions of applying principles at a societal level become even clearer. This makes it even more important that students are exposed to learning experiences which will equip them adequately for a lifetime of practice. Traditional didactic approaches need to be enhanced with additional modalities such as case studies, community services, and healthcare advocacy[1]. This community health program was essential in this context of experiencing the practical outcome of didactic information gained through public health education in class.

FLUORIDE VARNISH APPLICATION PROGRAM

During the community health program held at the Headstart centers, we went through the stages of Assessment, Planning, and Implementation.

We assessed the kids from the neighborhood areas, created individual medical portfolio checklists, planned their treatment and provided with educational agenda.

After assessing and planning our steps we implemented cleaning and fluoride varnishing procedures. The experience of working with the public was priceless. Although we did not go over the post-service census and statistical evaluation of the patients.
