Collage 1 – DNA of the site
This collage depicts my initials thoughts when I first visited the site. There was penalty of sun light making the area very humid but the breeze off the near by water created a comfortable balance between hot and cool. The yellow lines are the sunlight, the black wavy lines is the wind, the waves represent the site being on the water and there is the shape of Brooklyn; very general idea of where the site is.

Roller Coaster

This models embodies the wind around the site, passing in and around everything. Similarly as to how the pipe cleaner weaves it’s way around the sticks.

Rolling

The moment of the waves crashing into each other and continuously rolling, just like the waves near by the site, is what the models shows.

Radial

The radial path of sunlight is what i tried to mimic in this model. More so a “ha;f sun” as with sunset or sunrise.

Spotted

Similar to the radial model, this model also deals with the sun but how much exposure the area receives; there are no breaks or shaded areas on the site.

Stacked

The model was a combination of the two of the idea mentions previously. Stacking the rolling and sunlight created the model. It was an experiment.

Collage 2 – Shelter

My thought process for the collage was not as systematic as the previous collage but more random and literal. I thought of different objects that provide shelter: umbrella, roofs and cave. The Brooklyn bridge and trees which are elements on on near the site.

Point of View

The idea of deconstructing an umbrella was the spark for the model. I treated a plastic cup as though it was an umbrella and cut it into pieces, bending each piece at different points similar to the curves of an umbrella.

Connections

The model is based of the idea of tension or stability, like a bridge. Pieces fitting into to each creating one strong body or form.

Criss- Cross

Two oppositely inverted roof shapes, horizontal piece for added support.

Standing tall

Just like a tree, this model exhibits a central core and extended limbs.. The center is the main source of the model strength, the other limbs.

Covered

One of natures strongest and more durable forms of shelter is the shape of a dome. Shell, caves and the Sidney Opera house are great examples of dome shapes. This model captures the same understanding of do
