Individual Strengths.
As the years have gone by since my pinning ceremony of June 2009; I look back and I
must say I have really grown and blossomed into not only a better person but also a more
confident individual. I was only eighteenth years old when I started the nursing program
at New York City College and Technology; I was very shy, meek and soft spoken. As the
years went by I realized that I would have to become a bit more resilient, out spoken but
most of all confident in what I do. When I began working, my coworkers would always let
me know that I will have to stand tall and be assertive in order to gain respect and also be
known as “the nurse who wants the job to get done.” My first time being in charge of a 40
bedded unit I knew that being timid and shy would not get me too far; so after many trials
and errors I became assertive, confident, resilient and most of all an advocate for all.
Gaining new strengths was not easy but it was needed because if I did not speak up and let
me opinions/feedback then who am I benefiting?
