ARTH 1102 History of Art: Renaissance to Modern

Survey of Western Art from 1300 to the Present

LIB1201 Research and Documentation for the Information Age Fall 2016

LIB1201 Research and Documentation for the Information Age Fall 2016

This course explores research and documentation for all media formats including text, images, sound, and multimedia. Students will explore information issues, especially in terms of their relevance today: how information is produced and organized in both traditional and emerging media, how information access is affected by political, economic and cultural factors, and the ethics of information use. Students will also acquire the practical skills of locating information sources in a variety of media and formats, critical evaluation of sources, and documentation and citation of traditional and emerging media and technologies. Students will apply what they learn to create and present research and documentation projects.

ComD1100 Graphic Design Principles 1fa2015

ComD1100 Graphic Design Principles 1fa2015

The study and use of graphic communication tools through understanding graphic elements and principles geared to the development of sensitivity to the nature of graphic relationships and their control within a given framework. Finding solutions to problems of abstract, conceptual, expressive and applied character, with increasing awareness of the range of properties of black and white and color. Identifying the characteristics, physical properties and psychological effects of black and white and of color for visual expression and practical graphic application. photo credit: NASA

Graphic Design Principles II (COMD 1200_D156)

Graphic Design Principles II (COMD 1200_D156)

This course explores creative visual thinking and its importance to communication design. Students will experiment with image making techniques and learn to use graphic elements to communicate concepts and ideas. The course will emphasize the integration of communication concepts, type and graphics and its relationship to multiple disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design production, and others. Students develop projects from thumbnails through final presentations.

COMD2327 – Type II, S2017

COMD2327 – Type II, S2017

Introduces a variety of basic layouts and formats, building technical and practical fluency in setting and working with type for both print and screen. This course further explores topics learned in COMD 1167 Type and Media, such as typeface selection and the use of the typographical grids. Problem-solving for most common typographical problems is discussed. Prerequisite: COMD 1167 Equivalent to old course ADV 1217

TRANSPARENCY

TRANSPARENCY

The transparency project using our paints was pretty fun. Throughout the semester I was getting tired of doing a lot of black and white images and was excited to use color. Even though I did enjoy the results, I felt this project was very tedious and frustrating. Mixing the paints I feel was the most difficult part for me, especially the tertiary colors. I used the painting knife to mix my paints and my test strips but my colors were just not coming out the way I wanted. I also felt for this project we was not given much time to complete when it came to the second round. I really did enjoy the way we started out the project by randomly creating different types of shapes. It was interesting to see the different style and size of the shapes that everyone came up with. I also liked playing around with the tints and tones. My favorite colors that I mixed for my tints and tones were blue and white which created a nice light blue and red and black, which created a gorgeous burgundy color. Overall, even though the process to complete this project was a bit frustrating I was satisfied with my final results and I enjoyed everyone else’s.

TEXTURE/ FIGURE/ GROUND

TEXTURE/ FIGURE/ GROUND

This project was one of my favorite’s out of all the projects we have done in class this semester. Although I do believe the process was very difficult and tedious. The reason I feel that it tedious was because of the time and technique that was required to complete the assignment. I also feel it was difficult because of how hard it was to find certain textures to mimic onto the paper. Luckily my boyfriend who used to work for NIKE has a ton of sneakers in the house that came in handy even though certain textures were not suitable for the project. My favorite part of this project was transferring the images and textures onto the other half of the bristol paper that we were required to work on. It was also fascinating to see how the all the different shapes played in together being that they were all placed closed to each other. The painting I would have to say was my least favorite part because of how detailed and careful I had to be given the fact that the different images were small in size. Overall, I was happy with how my final results came out and proud at myself at the same time. Given all of the time and effort I put into it.

SPOTS PROJECT IMAGE 3

I found this project to be a little fun and not as complicated as our other projects. The process took a while given the fact that I had to re-do it on a different type of paper. Originally, I did it on Bristol paper instead of drawing paper. I enjoyed utilizing the terms that we learned from our in class journals in each of our drawings. I felt that doing the journals and discussing them in class did give me a better understanding of certain commercial advertisings that I see on an everyday basis. It was fun playing around with my drawings and coming up with these different ideas when using these terms. The most difficult part for me was the smudging of the spots. I did not enjoy that part as much because it took the most time out of all of the steps to create these drawings. It was also a bit hard to render the same spots that were chosen for the projects. Being that they were random spots that were created with barely any thought. I did enjoy overall creating my 50/50 piece. Being that I enjoyed doing a 50/50 in my texture/figure/ground project, this one was just as fun and slightly easier since we didn’t have to work with ink or permanent markers.
