My name is Xiuhe Mei. I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Communication Design. I enjoy to solving visual problems and turning them into simple and beautiful designs. My number one design principle is “LESS IS MORE”.

ADV1100 Graphic Design Principles 1
This foundation design and color theory course explores graphic communication from idea development to final execution. Through hands-on experiments, collaborative learning, and individual projects students will learn the language and process of design thinking and gain a solid foundation in design principles and practices. While studying the basic tenets of design students develop visual literacy by following a design process: 1. Research 2. Experimentation 3. Development of Skill, Craft and Voice 4. Expression of Form, Emotions or Concepts 5. Thoughtful Assessment (verbal and written) 6. Record of significant commitment of time Communication designers use the concepts explored in this course in disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography, and game design.

COMD3503 D226 Spring2017 Topic in Graphic Design
Explores the role of graphic designer in contemporary visual communications with related design assignments and research. Graphic design trends; the impact of computer technology; examination of the work of major 20th century designers; global graphics; the ongoing dialogue between advertising and graphic design. A large emphasis will be placed on awareness of the design world by observing the principles of design in our community: books, publications, web sources, museums and graphic art organizations. EL 031 Advanced Academic Writing for ESOL Students
This is a course in academic writing and CATW preparation. It focuses on discussion essay genre and it provides support in language, vocabulary, syntax and grammar.
COMD4900 E298 Spring 2017 Patrissi
Students are required to find internship opportunities of approximately eight hours per week at an Industry segment site approved by the Department Internship instructor. Approved companies include advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporate design, Publishing art departments, Printing design or marketing departments, photography or illustration studios and TV or multimedia production companies. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Openlab. A portion of the class will be devoted to presenting and sharing experiences with classmates. Students will learn how to assess their talents, update their resume, and market themselves and their work through using various platforms including social media. Students will be required to setup and maintain at least two social media networks such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
