This course introduces students to core concepts in the graphic communications field. Lectures will provide historical perspective as well as examining current practice and future media trends. Students will examine and work with digital technologies for print and the web such as Portable Document Formats (PDF) and Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML). Examination of the role of typography, paper, color theory and image capture in the design and production process. Students will also develop and maintain an ePortfolio following an orientation in the College e-Portfolio lab. Two field trips will be an integral part of the course.

3D Printing is the new form of printing; There are different types of 3D Printing; but they have things in commons; they all create three dimensional object creating layer per layers till the whole peace is created. Each layer has a slice of the object; each layer is thinly sliced then printer waits til the bottom layer is dry and solidifies then starts to work on the top layer and so on. The whole process of 3D printing begins with a Digital file called Computer Aided Design (CAD); or design can be scanned into 3D Software using a 3D Scanner. The 3D printer reads the file/image then starts to create layers to exact spec, each layer is compressed as to it blend without showing it was at one point separate/built separate; it sort of looks like a wax built item. Believe it or not 3D printing has been out in the world for decades; mostly used by commercial manufacturers in their design processes for the creation of prototypes for traditional manufacturing; but till recently the equipment used to make 3D printing has been very expensive and slow. Now that the technology is old and faster; companies can purchase it for less than twenty-thousand dollars and outcome would be companies would save thousands of dollars in prototype processing. Nike Uses 3D printing to create multicolored prototypes of shoes; they used to waste thousands of dollars on the prototypes and would have to wait weeks for receive it; and currently cost them hundreds of dollars and the changes can be made instantly on computer and be reprinted on same day. Some companies are not even using 3D printing for prototype they are using it for consumer copies. 3D printing is also used in medical field for instance in Surgery there is more accuracy in complicated surgeries, if a surgeon needs to remove a tumor but does not want to risk the chance of hitting a nerve, he/she can make a 3D print out using cat scan from patient and practice on the 3D item it is also used for facial reconstruction surgery and also building tissues. Over all 3D printing is an actual 3 dimensional item made from what’s called a 3D Printer; which is not the same or not even remotely close to the traditional printer we have at our homes, Office, Schools, Libraries it is mostly used by industries for fast prototype processing; and for life saving procedures. I Hope that one day 3D Printing will be available for home purchase; it would be a great thing to have.

Exhibition Assignment
First I would like to say is that sadly I was not able to attend the Museum Exhibition the only day I could have gone was on Monday; just as I was about to leave to go to the museum I checked online the direction to it and noticed the museum was closed on Mondays. Photo manipulation has been going on for ages as early as the 1840s; manipulation of photography has its purpose whether it will be for good or for bad but mostly people use it for good for instance someone wants to take away wrinkles or make their waste slimmer than it already is adding people to an image when there were never near place the image was taken. One of the images that took my interest was Leap into the Voids; It was created by Yves Klein, and Photo Graphed by Harry Shunk and Janos Kender; The way it was created was two different images was taken one showing Klein Leaping with friends on group holding a tarpaulin to catch him; the seconds image was just a shot of the surrounding no one on ground nor Klein leaping and from there the two images were combined to make it seem like he was going to fly away or try to commit suicide.
The International load exhibition has traces of manipulation of photography from the 1840s through the early 1990s, when computers dominated handmade manipulations. The way manipulation of Photos were done by hand was by exposing the negatives using a technique
Called photomontage and combination printing;
The Next image I found interesting has no title as per Met Museum website but it was made by Jerry N. Uelsmann; he made the art work in dark rooms he add techniques to the picture to make it look the way it does, and to me it looks very good it has drama to it the black and gray shades add the suspense to it; it seems like this picture should go on the cover of a scary movie or a poster.
Many organization uses Photo Manipulation magazine companies use it to retouch models making them seem thinner than they actually are; some people actually have problems with it trade groups’ wants to make a code on how much a photo can be manipulated; what magazines are doing is creating beauty to sell eye candy pretty much. On the image below is after the makeup is done before the photo manipulation is started you can see from the manipulated picture she has more color, her lips are fuller, her neck was extended a little bit her eyebrows moved also and her cheeks were also touched up; you can tell that ad companies magazine companies do want to sell eye candy make it more appealing for reader.
Manipulation of Photo has become easier (After Photo Shop Era) Digital picture helps manipulate the photo by taking clearer shots and easily uploading it on computer rather than manually manipulate it thus losing color or important facts on the image. The image on the side looks like that child is actually smoking a cigarette; the child mother gave him a fake cigarette to play with; the other took the photo and using Hollywood special effect software she added wisps and smoke making the image realistic.
To sum it up Photo manipulation has it goods and has its bad it does not cure any problems in the worlds but it is out there for the world can use it to try and help themselves with whatever message they want to portray..

The field trip to Expo center was to see different companies that deal with adv and graphic design industries many known companies where there and also local companies, the report was to write 2 to 3 pages of company we found interesting,
Photo Plus Expo
On October 27th we set out to explore different super companies like Sony, Canon and Nikon and many more were there; also local companies were there some that I never heard of but from what I saw they have the potential to be a big company. The layout of the expo was of no surprise the biggest companies had the front row space; as it can be seen on back ground picture on this page. Many companies gave out free stuff noting expensive but mostly interesting brochures and booklets. But what I felt that was missing was attention getting scenery etc for instance Canon was advertising one of their new camera and they used a car that seemed liked it crashed into a building and the cameras where inside the building and it showed in detail on TV screen how it looked picture will be provided.
The first Company I would talk about is Canon even though I do not honor any of their products but; the way they captured my attention with the display of the car that seemed like it crashed into a building. A Brief history of Canon; Canon was founded in 193 by the name of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory which was located in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo and it main goal was to research in the quality of cameras; and in 1935 the name Canon is formed. In 1955 canon New York branch was opened. In 1965 Canon U.S.A, INC was established. In the picture on the image above; Canon EOS 1D X was used to capture the image and displayed on the TV’s; From what I saw on the TV display the camera took very good quality shots you could see all the debris on the car from when it crashed into building; the price tag of the camera is $6,999.00 price is pretty

pricey I will find no use to this camera unless I change fields; but if I do Canon would be in my list of perspective suppliers.
The Second Company I Choose is SONY; I really like Sony Products Because I believe they are high quality and they are more attractive. Sony was Founded May 7th 1946 it is headquartered in headquartered in Kōnan Minato, Tokyo, Japan; “The Sony name was created by combining “SONUS,” the original Latin for “SONIC,” meaning sound, with “SONNY,” denoting sm1all size, or a youthful boy. It was chosen for its simple pronunciation that is the same in any language” . SONY in my vision is a media POWER house because they have a lot of media electronics from
entertainment to commercial grade products. Sony has a lot of great products I am really interested in their NEX camera family because it good
Quality and it is affordable; Sony is a highly respectable and favored company for that same Reason. One of the local Company that took my interest was a Company Named
Fine Art Album which is located in Mineola, Nassau County NY; Fine Art Albums is not an Electronic Giant like Sony and cannon it’s a local company that produces professional grade printed materials, I recorded a video the File name is M4H01702 it’s a short clip with one
of the workers doing a commentary. I liked their products because when you look at it you can see the quality that it is made with its precise; on their Albums all the Binding is done by hands; the sheets are printed on Photo Paper and nothing is run through press as said by the worker. albums were amazing they have albums in metal casing it looked really great; They also make photo in shapes like the image on previous page; by me feeling that picture I can see and feel the quality the photo was printed on a thick paper its nice and sturdy it looks like it was built to last.
In Brief the expo was a good experience I wish I could have stayed longer; I learned of great local companies that should advertise more for people can learn of them because a lot of them I never heard of but from what I saw they are a great company.

This project was assigned by the professor to looks through magazines and choose an article that grabs out attention; i choose one with Denzel Washington which was in a magazine of Mens Health; the image was strong and the colors they choose also set the mood for the article.
