Eva Machauf is a designer, art director and artist. She teaches Advertising 3501, Identity Design at the New York City College of Technology as well as design classes at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. She received her MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art, and her BA in Cultural Anthropology from the City College of New York.
Prior to teaching at City Tech and BMCC, she was on the full-time faculty in the Visual Communications Department at Katharine Gibbs School, New York where she taught graphic design, typography, advertising, portfolio development and software skills. Previous to that, she was the Senior Art Director of the Creative Department at the American Management Association.
She has also designed numerous freelance projects, worked as a set decorator for films and commercials and exhibited her paintings in group shows.

COMD3501 OL26 IDENTITY DESIGN FA2021
Students will develop a robust and unified visual identity for a cultural institution including a logo, brochure and ad campaign. We will explore the elements that make an identity appropriate, engaging and cohesive. Color palette, iconography and type selection will be discussed. Slide lectures, assigned readings, videos and class critiques will augment the design process. The final project will be presented in the form of a pdf booklet and will include evidence of process as well as applications. Process will consist of research, mind mapping and logo development sketches. Guidelines for logo usage will be developed.
COMD 3501 OL01 IDENTITY DESIGN SP2021
In this course students will partner with Hospitality Program students to create a visual identity for a restaurant. Hospitality students will provide a concept and menu items and together, students will develop the name, logo and menu designs. Students will explore the elements that make an identity appropriate, engaging and cohesive. Color palette, iconography and type selection will be discussed with Hospitality clients. Designers will present their Hospitality clients with options and discuss possibilities. Menus will be comped and formally presented at the end of the 7th week. In the second portion of the course design students will be working on their own to further develop the identity elements. They will design applications such as signage, an ad campaign, communications package and develop guidelines for logo usage. The final project will be presented in a printed and bound book. Slide lectures, assigned readings, videos and class critiques will augment the design process.
