Composition Pedagogy, Literacy Studies, Nineteenth-Century Literature, Cinema Studies and other 20th-Century Communication and Media Studies
Ashar Foley earned her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from SUNY Stony Brook in 2014. She teaches Composition and Media Studies at New York City College of Technology and Fordham University at Lincoln Center, respectively. Service-wise, she tutors at READ 718, a Brooklyn-based youth literacy nonprofit, and is Membership Committee leader at Lefferts Community Food Co-op. Her current projects include research into innovative freshman-year research assignments, writing a cat-and-bird book for young readers, and transferring her skills in classical guitar to electric bass.

Eng.1101LC49 English Composition Learning Community with Biology, Fa2017
This course connects the science of Biology with the issues, problems and promises created by that science. We will explore the connection between the science of Biology and the real world issues, for example how global warming affects flooding and droughts as well as how both fields ask effective questions.

FYW@City Tech is a program and a digital forum for sharing curricular and pedagogical resources related to teaching and learning about writing at City Tech. The First Year Writing Program @ City Tech (FYW@City Tech) offers professional and curricular support for faculty teaching First Year Writing Courses (ENG1101 and ENG1121) at the college. As a repository of materials related to best practices in teaching writing, the FYW@City Tech Web site is a place where FYW instructors and faculty across the college can learn more about teaching writing and archive their unique disciplinary resources related to teaching writing at a college of technology.
