Bio

Hello there!

My name is Evelyn I am currently a student at City Tech and a Peer Mentor for the FYLC. My major is communication design and I have been a digital artist since April 2018. I am aspiring to work in a team for game design but currently, I have taken an interest in creating a webtoon. I am trying to develop my own consistent yet unique style while I build my portfolio.

College taught me that being punctual is a real-life skill that is necessary for all artists. Even though your work may be great if you can not meet a deadline you may not get chosen. So my advice for freshman and fellow artists is to always be on time when submitting work! Submitting something is always better than nothing.

ARCH and ENG FYLC F2020

ARCH and ENG FYLC F2020

This is the First Year Learning Community bringing together ARCH 1101 and ENG 1101 in Fall 2020. ARCH 1101, Introduction to Architecture: Understanding architecture is achieved by developing a visual literacy of New York City’s built environment. Using the city as a living laboratory, students explore concepts of design, composition, and construction by sketching and writing about their direct experience of buildings. Focus workshops on freehand drawing techniques, basic drafting skills, graphic standards, 2D and 3D composition, writing about buildings and their construction, and reading architectural drawings are central to this course. Students develop graphic skills and the basic foundation to talk, write, and graphically express architecture and its construction. ENG 1101, English Composition 1, is a course in effective essay writing and basic research techniques, including use of the library. College-level readings are assigned for class-wide discussion and as a basis for writing projects.

In this course, students learn to refine their conceptual thinking, and the ability to apply design concepts across various media channels. This course challenges students to think and strategically apply campaign ideas. At this stage, students choose a media placement and incorporate it into the solution. The course also introduces the collaborative relationship between Art Director and Copywriter. Student teams brainstorm, develop copy, art direct and pitch ideas in teams. Students will explore the dialogue between products and services and how to communicate their benefits and features to the intended target. ENG1101CO, English Composition I Co-Requisite, Spring 2020

ENG1101CO, English Composition I Co-Requisite, Spring 2020

English 1101CO is a writing-intensive course designed to strengthen your composition skills. Writing a variety of essays, in addition to a research project, will help you develop skills such as building an argument, adapting writing for different needs and situations, interpreting and responding to a text, incorporating secondary source material effectively, and mastering the mechanics of quoting, citing, and documenting sources. We will be reading pieces both for their inherent literary value and also as models of composition that you may employ in your writing assignments. The “CO” in English 1101CO stands for corequisite, which means that in addition to the English 1101 coursework, we will dedicate time to strengthening fundamental reading and writing skills. We will focus on enhancing vocabulary and critical reading skills, using step-by-step approaches to writing assignments, improving grammar and punctuation skills, and cultivating positive habits for college success, including note-taking and study skills.
