ahaynes’s Profile

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene at New York City College of Technology. I am a clinical instructor for both freshman and senior dental hygiene students, as well as being a radiology lecturer. I am a member of the American Dental Hygienist Association. The largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 185,000 registered dental hygienists nationwide. In 2017, I was elected as a Board Member to the Dental Hygienists’ Association of the City of New York, the local component of the national organization. I serve as the newly appointed Educational Chairperson for the New York City Dental Hygiene Association. I am responsible for planning and scheduling educational meetings at the local dental hygiene schools in the NYC area.
Since 2011, I have served as a New York State Dental Board Member. I am one of four dental hygienists in New York State serving on the New York State Board. The function of the State Board Member is to advise and assist the Board of Regents and the State Education Department on matters of professional regulation. State Board members are dedicated to public protection and quality professional preparation and conduct. State Board members advise on licensing issues and preside over disciplinary cases. I am currently one of two dental hygienists of the local anesthesia curriculum committee.
I am also a dental hygiene licensing examiner for The Commission on Dental Competency Assessments. The CDCA is a nonprofit, independent corporation, comprised of a consortium of 32 member states and international dental boards. CDCA is responsible for administering the licensing examination for dental and dental hygiene students. I am the New York State representative for The Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA). As a Steering Committee member, I participate in meetings annually. Members approve, maintain, or adopt any dental and dental hygiene examinations exclusively developed for and administered by the CDCA. The committee members shall review the credentialing and training processes for CDCA examiners and make recommendations for quality assurance for the examinations. I inform the New York State Board of Dentistry of all information provided by the CDCA to the Steering Committee members.
