Remember, we are not logging into Zoom today! Instead, please watch the guest lecture and make your comments as described in the post under “Guest Lectures and Discussion.” Comments will only count towards your grade up until the beginning of the following class (i.e., until 2:30pm on Thursday, 4/8), so make sure you complete them before that time.Â
We will meet on Zoom again this coming Thursday (4/8). See you then.Â

Dear Class,Â
I have finished grading for the first half of the semester. You can see your assignment grades from turnitin.com (for homework and papers) by visiting turnitin.com. You can see your midterm exam grade and other grades on Blackboard, by going to: ToolsâMy Grades.Â
âMid-semester Gradesâ reflect your performance in the class so far. These are based on all available grades up until now. You should receive one of the following letters:Â
P: Passing (>65%)
BL: Borderline (55%-65%)
F: Failing (<55%).Â
I strongly suggest arranging a meeting with me on Zoom if you received a BL or F.Â
Please note that only about 42% of the points available for the semester have been determined so far. This means there is still significant opportunity to change your grade!
I have also added a category to the grade center for class participation. You can see the participation policy in the syllabus. If your participation grade is low, it is usually because you are either not attending class (or in some cases you are coming late) and/or you are not verbally participating in class. Changing these patterns of behavior can significantly increase your score, and in many cases it is still possible to raise this score to 100%!
Please let me know if you have any questions.Â

Dear Students,Â
If you haven’t already, please take 10 seconds to fill out the google form to register your group role. The link is here:Â

I cannot grade your annotated bibliography until I know your group role.Â
Thanks to those who already did.Â
Best,Â
Dr. M
Please submit to turnitin.com by midnight tonight.Â
Don’t forget, there is no Zoom session today! Watch the video and write your response. See the earlier announcement.Â
Dr. M
Annotated bibliographies are due next Tuesday on turnitin.com before midnight.Â
Please remember to upload a few minutes early so that you can check for originality, and resubmit if necessary!
Remember to read the handout explaining the assignment, if you haven’t already. You will be graded on the criteria explained in the handout, so it is worth looking at carefully.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Dr. M
Instead, please watch the video from our guest lecturer and leave comments there according to the instructions, before the following class. You can view the post here.
You can see your score for the midterm by going to âTools,â then âMy grades.â You can see which answers you got wrong and right by clicking on âMidterm,â then clicking on the âCalculated Grade.â Â
Let me know if you have any questions!
Dr. M
You don’t need to log on to Zoom today, as we are taking the exam. Dr. M will be available on Zoom during the normal class period in case you have questions about the exam while you are taking it.Â
See the previous announcement for details regarding the exam.Â
Good luck! See you Thursday.
Dr. M
Our Mid-term Exam is coming up next Tuesday, 3/16!!
The test will be 75 minutes long and will be administered on Blackboard. You should receive an announcement to your email at 2:30pm, when it becomes available. You can also find it under âContentâ in Blackboard after 2:30pm.Â
The exam is open book and open notes. I recommend that you study carefully for it by filling out the study sheet ahead of time. Most of the questions require understanding concepts, not simply repeating answers from the study sheet.Â
Do NOT plagiarize from the internet. Utilizing answers from class materials and lectures is acceptable. Plagiarism from the internet is grounds for a zero score on the test.
You can start it any time within the normal class period (2:30-3:45pm) and will receive a full 75 minutes to take the test. It is possible to pause the test and come back later, but the clock will keep ticking and you only have 75 minutes total to take the test. You will not be able to resume after 3:45pm.Â
If you need a special exception you need to contact me. If for some reason you donât contact me and also donât take it at the appointed time, you will need a documented excuse (either medical or related to bereavement) for permission to take it at another time.
Donât forget to download the review sheet and fill it out before the test! And let me know if you have any questions.
