Hearing loss affects about 3 million children in the U.S. Hearing loss can be present at birth or it can be developed later on in the child’s life. Hearing loss can affect a child’s speech development, social skills, and self-esteem. Hi my name is Emily and I’m here to share my and my family’s experience on what it’s like to have a child with hearing loss. Today I will be talking about what life is like for my brother and then I will have a talk with my parents on some of the different challenges they have to face.

  1. Middle:
  • Introduce brother Emmanuel
  • Give info about his condition
  • Share the programs emmanuel is in
  • Add sound clip of emmanuel in speech therapy
  • Have my mom talk about the time when emmanuel was excluded from playing with the other kids
  • Ask mom questions:
    • What were you thinking when you found out that Emmanuel would possibly not be able to hear from his right ear?
    • What is it like finding schools that are beneficial for Emmanuel?
    • How has your mindset changed now that some time has passed?
    • What are some emotions you’re feeling? Stress? Excitement? Worry?
    • What is Emmanuel like?
    • Do you think you’re getting a sufficient amount of help?
  • Add sound clips of Emmanuel playing around the house or singing
  • Talk about my relationship with Emmanuel
  1. Outro:

I hope my podcast gave you a new perspective on what it’s like having a child with hearing loss. When I was doing my research I didn’t find any articles where the child has the same condition as my brother or maybe I didn’t look hard enough. So I just wanted to make this condition more known.
