She writes trying to capture general attention on how the education system is causing kids, mostly students, to lose their curiosity due to teachers focusing mainly on what they are teaching. The author’s tone in her article is very informative, she is trying to inform people on the situation that is going on in schools.
Part 5: Notable Quotables
“School kills curiosity. When do children get to ask questions about things that interest them? As soon as they are at primary school they have to shut up and learn. It’s not the fault of teachers. They have so many targets to meet.”
“When you visit schools in many parts of the world it can be difficult to remember they are full of active, intellectual children, because no one is talking about their inner mental lives. How well they behave, and how they perform seem much more important to many people in the educational communities. Often educational bureaucracies have shunted curiosity to the side.”
“The questions they asked were aimed at improving their results, whereas the questions asked by more curious students were aimed at understanding a topic more deeply.”
Hi Ariana, Your rhetorical analysis is very good. Although you missing some important details in there like the tone, you did answer some of the other important parts such as the credibility and the genre. Your notable quotes also look good but you’re missing the author’s name. You have to write the author’s name at the end of your quote like this: (Berliner) is just her last name. Without it, it makes it look like you said that instead of the person who actually said it.
