Practice Reflection– Anabel Nunez

I chose this article because I am a student myself that has gone through many years of school. Throughout the article the author mentions students not being able to be curious and how it can be harmful to their education. Being a shy student it was always difficult for me to raise my hand and ask questions about what was being taught. In a situation like this where teachers are turning down questions claiming “it’s not the appropriate time” for questions makes it harder for those who are actually curious. Personally I have had the feeling that I will be ignored if I asked question at the wrong time as well as my fellow classmates.

There is no way of learning if it isn’t without questions. Questions give the student a chance to explore new ideas and expand their understanding on new topics. Being curious and getting the wrong answer was my best way of learning got me more far then sitting quietly in the classroom confused on what is being said. Curiosity is a good thing. All students should be encouraged to be, this is the only way our education will expand.

  1. I like that you talked about getting questions wrong as a good thing because that way we can learn from our mistakes. Getting something wrong out loud can help us to remember the correct answer in the future because we think of the embarrassment we felt when getting the question wrong. It’s a darker way of thinking about it, but it helps in the long run.

  2. Hi, Anabel I really liked how you connected your personally experience to what the author talks about. I also like how you added that questions are important its apart of learning and developing your self more.

  3. Hey Anabel, I agree with you that being shy definitely gets in the way of being curious in class and especially since the teacher ignored your question and instead hushed you down. Curiosity is good cause even if your wrong it’s kind of a better way to remember what is right.
