Colin making these statements showed his feeling toward the ROTC. It was very obvious he really enjoyed the scenery/society he was apart of, because he stated that having a sense of belonging was something he craved. Craved means to have a powerful desire for something. Also the first quote implies that he felt a real, true, genuine brotherhood that he never felt, before he joined the ROTC. Colin joining the ROTC without knowing “why” was probably one of the best decisions for him.
