Title: Genre Project Progress Report – Bithiah

I have completed my genre assignment. My creator’s statement is currently a work in progress. I struggled to edit my video but watching YouTube tutorialsΒ helped. I believe I will be able to make the deadline. So far, I feel like I gave my assignment my best, and I am pleased with the results. I am working on my creator’s statement, which I believe I will be able to complete today. I am not really interested in having my writing published, but if it is, maybe on City Tech’s Writer website.Β

  1. Bithiah:

Please remind me which Amanda Gorman poem you are using as a mentor text. I have forgotten which one you showed me.

What kind of video are you making? Will you record yourself reciting your poem as a Spoken Word Poem? Here is how Poetry Foundation defines a spoken word poem: Characterized by rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and word play, spoken word poems frequently refer to issues of social justice, politics, race, and community.

I think you did view the video of Amanda Gorman reciting her poem at President Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, yes? Is this the poem you used as mentor text?

OR — are you just making a video of yourself reciting your poem?

Please share the tutorials that you found on You TUBE. If they were helpful for you, I would like to put them up in the Unit 3 Resources under Option to create a poem and recite it.

  2. So please show me the poem you chose as mentor poem.

ALSO in your creator’s statement, I hope to read about what your process was for creating/writing your poem!

    1. The mentor poem is β€œThe Hill We Climb.” My visual poem is going to be like the video poem you showed us about the pandemic.

  3. Bithiah: In your Creator’s Statement, I want some details about the Mentor Text your used as your mentor poem (remember that you did not do HW 4 Mentor T Analysis of your chosen genre). What was that poem? Why did you chose that poem as mentor and what you learned about it and how it influenced the poem you wrote “Redefining Identity: African American Youth Navigate Stereotypes”. So — you will give me details about your writing process on writing your poem.

I do think you need a better title for this poem. This title sounds like an essay — for a poem you need something more clever or wordy or taking one of your lines from the poem and pulling it out to be your title.

    OK?

Looking forward to viewing your video recitation an d reading your poem.

Looking forward to viewing your video recitation an d reading your poem. Knowing your shyness, I think you are brave to do a video of recitation of your poem. You will learn new presentation skills that will help you in the future!
