RAB Proposal Paragraph
My research question is: Should Puerto Rico become the 51st state? This topic interests me because I am half Puerto Rican, I have a huge family in the country of Puerto Rico that loves being in the tropical country. The agriculture, the food choices in Puerto Rico, the music culture is lovely. Everyone loves to take a vacation there with variety of activities to do such as discovering new rain forests. Taking a trip to visit old San Juan, site seeing, and many more fun activities to explore and be apart of. Famously known for a Spanish dish of arroz blanco con gandule, Mofongo and many more dishes. With The music culture behind Reggaeton, Latin pop, merengue and many more.  I would like to dive in more in-depth on why should Puerto Rico become the 51st state?. What benefits can Puerto Rico receive into becoming the 51ststate?. Who is responsible for interfering in Puerto Rico becoming the 51st state? I already know that Puerto Rico is owned by the United States but can not vote in presidential elections. Some points that I plan to explore and find out more about are what are the pro’s and con’s of Puerto Rico becoming the 51st state. Political representation and opportunities. Another point I would like to know is what other reasons The U.S can not establish Puerto Rico becoming a U.S state.

  1. You Do NOT have a clear Research Question. Please revise this Proposal Paragraph to be more clear. For example your RQ is not clear: How the economic part of Puerto Rico effect it’s citizens health, and financial problems? — Huh? THis is a big problem! Your RQ is not clear.

Then, when you have a clearly written RQ, you need to do a better search for sources. Look in NYTimes.

Here are a few I am sharing. NOt sure what exactly your RQ, but these NYT articles might help you find a topic and write a clearer RQ:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/31/us/puerto-rico-gentrification.html

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/18/us/puerto-rico-bankruptcy.html

Here is a feature article on new ways of doing agriculture in Puerto Rico. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/08/magazine/puerto-rico-farms-hurricanes.html

Another arrticle from NYT on Puerto Rico and agriculture: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/08/magazine/puerto-rico-farms-hurricanes.html

Possible question: What ways can Puerto Rico rebuild its economy through agriculture? Can agriculture be an answer to Puerto Rico’s economic problems?

What about food/agriculture and Puerto Rico?

Andre: You need to do a lot of work on finding and expressing in clear language what your Research Question will be. YOu must an important lesson today by our Library Professor Almeida. YOu need to contact a classmate to find what we did and YOU NEED TO READ ANNOUNCEMENTS for what you missed.

Can agriculture be the answer to Puerto Rico’s economic problems? Why does Puerto Rico import most of its food when it has a good growing climate? SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

Andre: I know you want to focus on Puerto Rico, but you need to find an subtopic about Puerto Rico that is do-able. YOU NEED TO THINK AND READ around to find a good Topic on PR.

  2. Andre: Much better! This is a better RQ and here I gve you some editing points on this Proposal which will become your RAB Introduction:

Your first two sources given here look good!

Fix fragments and shorten the long part of things to love about PR. Make a list of the main things. No need for long details here in the Proposal.

Give 3 solid THINGS YOU ALREADY KNOW.

Glad to see you are on track now!
