Part B:

Page 2 “I have often reflected upon the new vistas that reading opened to me. I knew right there in prison that reading had changed forever the course of my life. As I see it today, the ability to read awoke inside me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive. I certainly wasn’t seeking any degree, the way a college confers a status symbol upon its students. My homemade education gave me, with every additional book that I read, a little bit more sensitivity to the deafness, dumbness, and blindness that was afflicting the black race in America”

Malcolm X’s journey demonstrates the importance of seeking knowledge and the impact it can have on one’s life and the lives of those around them. This quote is a testament to the power of education and the role it can play in shaping the course of one’s life.

  1. I liked the quote you used because Malcolm helped us feel what he felt from learning how to read when he said “reading had changed forever the course of my life. As I see it today, the ability to read awoke inside me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive.” I could only imagine how one of us would feel if we didnt have the ability to read. Also I like how you mentioned that Malcolm wanted to understand the issues black people were facing due to the white society.

  2. I agree fully with the power of reading and education, as being mentally alive was a tool that sparked his drive to learn and gain a deeper understanding of the issues going on at the time.
