Wiki defines the The Platform for Privacy Preferences Project (P3P) is a protocal allowing websites to declare their intended use of information they collect about web users. Designed to give users more control of their personal information when browsing. Which is good thing for the consumers, because they can choose whether they should give their information to a third party-most third parties are those advertisment websites which post advertisment on the side when people open their websites. But, I think P3P is pretty weak at his arms, because there are certainly not that many websites which follow the protocal. Without the government enforcement and regulation, many websites just won’t help the consumers to keep their information. All the information is valuable which can be trade off for marketing propose or even money. Many people just hardly realize that their personal information is profitable. Think this way the US e-commerse sales is $165.4 billion in 2010, that is how much people brought online in 2010, and the most inportant thing about sale products to people is to find out what people like individually, I suppose that is why our personal imformation is so valuable to those websites.
