Plagiarism

I find it ironic that the University’s president was guilty of plagiarizing, this must’ve been shocking to the faculty and students and set a horrible example. I don’t believe plagiarizing has such a big grey area like Isserman proposes. Although it is true that people use other’s original ideas, I believe its easy to tell weather someone is plagiarizing or not. When you can compare the original works used with the person’s writing you can easily distinguish if its in his own words or not. It could be the same idea but like Isserman said, truly putting it in your own words shows f you learned or not rather than just restating. Often if the person hasn’t understood the information it is very easy to spot the lack of originality as long as you have the original work to refer it to. Plagiarizers hope that the original work they copied can’t be found but the internet makes that quite difficult.
It is vital for people to use other people’s information. in our current society almost all information is recorded somehow and available to the masses. This makes it better for us to learn and get educated. It could be difficult to come up with original ideas but at least you can understand other peoples points and use this information in your own way. The key is to use your own words and leave evidence of learning from it and developing the idea.
