Discussion: Introductions & Mathography

Your first OpenLab Discussion assignment is to introduce yourself to your classmates.  This assignment is due Monday, September 4th, at the start of class. Late submissions will receive partial credit.

Assignment. Add a comment in reply to this post introducing yourself to the class.  Your comment should be at least 2 paragraphs in length.  In the first paragraph, introduce yourself in whatever way you wish. You could include your academic interests, why you chose your major, what you enjoy reading, listening to, watching, and doing in your spare time, or anything else you want to share (include your pronouns, if you wish).  In the second paragraph, choose ONE of the following two topics and write a response. Don’t forget to tell us which topic you chose.

Topics (choose ONE).

  1. Was math ever your favorite subject? If so, when was it? What about math made it your favorite? If math has never been your favorite subject, what about it do you not like?
  2. Sometimes people can recognize a time when their opinion of math dramatically changed either for the better or the worse. Tell us about it.

Extra Credit. Get to know your classmates! For extra credit, write a response to one of your classmates’ comments. Do you feel the same? Did you learn anything? Do you have any advice? Be kind.

  1. Zubaria Nasrullah

Hello everyone,I’m zubaria nasrullah my academic interest is biology

  2. Alicia

    My name is Alicia Pemberton.

Attending CityTech, is me returning to college after not attending for 8 yrs. I had to put school on hold because my child became very sick and now that my child is better I’m able to fully focus on my education. I have a 17 yrs old daughter.

I am a transfer student from Lehman College. My major is Nursing. I am currently employed as a Patient Care Technician at New York Presbyterian medical center and I have been in healthcare for 14 yrs. I love what I do, I am very passionate about what I do and the next level up position for me in my occupation is becoming a Registered Nurse.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and partner. We do a variety of different activities from cooking together, traveling the world, museums, hiking, day party brunches or something as simple as staying inside and ordering takeout, watching our favorite shows/movies. I’m all about positivity and good vibes so that is what I surround myself around. My family is from a small island in the caribbean by name of St Kitts and Nevis. I am a first generation American but I am very into my culture. With returning to school I have made a lot sacrifices and lifestyle changes so I can fully apply myself, so this year no Labor Day Parade for me. It’s OK though, because when I graduate school with my BSN degree the parade will still be happening and I will be attending.

For the assignment I have chosen Topic One. I have never considered math my favorite subject. I don’t like math because I get lost easily and lose track of the steps. I always get tripped up with positive and negative numbers. Even though I have never considered math my favorite subject and I have struggled with it forever, I do understand the importance of math, especially in my field. Accurate medication dosages for patients can determine life or death. So even though I am struggling I am not going to give up. With math I have realized I am able to understand but it has be broken down in the simplest, baby steps form.
