Case Study 1– Arestin

H/III- A 38 y/o Asian male with normal BP and NSF medically. Intra-orally, patient presented with palatal torus and bilateral mandibular tori. Patient presented with generalized recession and generalized interproximal calculus deposit. FMS exposed revealing

generalized moderate to severe bone lost, periapical pathology adjacent to #24,

furcation on #31 and overhang restoration on #32-D.

Patient was unaware of those conditions.

The treatment plan consisted of:

  • OHI- Modified bass TB technique using soft or extra soft toothbrush to avoid further involvement.
  • Scaling and root planning.
  • Arestin-followed by scaling and root planning, for anti-bacterial effects and reducing deep pockets.
  • Fluoride varnish- applied the varnish to reduce sensitivity.

Case Study 2
H/II- A 31y/o Asian male with normal BP and NSF medically. Patient is a non-smoker, has no systemic conditions, and patient is not taking any prescription medicine or any over-the-counter (OTC) medication. Intra-orally, patient presented with black hairy tongue and moderated extrinsic black line stain. In addition to staining, patients also has generalized interproximal heavy calculus deposits.

The treatment plan consisted of:

• OHI- brushing the lingual side of teeth in a vibratory motion followed by brushing tongue
• Air polishing- removing supragingival stain from the teeth for a more efficient stain removal.
• Scaling and root planning.
The patient was happy with the outcome when he noted the difference in the before and after pictures!

Case Study 3

H/II- A 26y/o Asian male with normal BP and NSF medically. Patient is a non-smoker, has no systemic conditions, and patient is not taking any prescription medicine or any over-the-counter (OTC) medication. Intra-orally, patient presented generalized heavy sub-gingival and supra-gingival calculus deposits.

The treatment plan consisted of:

    • OHI- taught modified bass brushing method reinforcing on brushing along the gum-line
    • Scaling and root planning.
    • Polishing with fine paste
    • Applying 5% Varnish fluoride
