Trigeminal Neuralgia and Bell’s Palsy

This paper discussed the differences between Trigeminal Neuralgia and Bell’s Palsy condition. Trigeminal Neuralgia affects the 5th cranial nerve and is often described as  a severe, shock-like neuropathic pain that causes sudden, brief, stabbing, and recurrent pain in one or more trigeminal nerve branches. Bell’s Palsy affects the 7th cranial nerve and is an acute facial paralysis which causes sudden weakness on one side of the face, resulting in muscle droop and damage to the facial nerve.  As oral health care professional, our main focus is in the head and neck region. These are two conditions that may present clinically at some point in my career so it was important that I understand the difference between them.
