American Psychoanalytic Association Meeting Lecture on 1930s New York City, Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York City January 15, 2013
I was invited to give a lecture on 1930s New York to a group of participants of the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Winter Meeting in New York in January 2013. The meeting was held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, so the hotel building became the touch stone for a discussion of urban and architectural development in New York City. This lecture starts at the turn of the century when the first Waldorf Hotel was established and continues through the 1930’s when New York was transformed by many critical large scale projects including the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center, and the new Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
