As the team led by Profs. Alexander Aptekar and Paul King worked to get the house built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard to get it ready for shipping to California for the Solar Decathlon Completion, I volunteered my time to help the team with the completion of the construction work, helping direct students working on the exterior ramps, benches, and handrails.
My contribution quickly became critical to the project’s schedule. In a 3 week period, I contributed approximately 100 hours of service to the project. After shipping the house to California, the team invited me to join them to help get the house prepared for the competition. In 5 days of service at the competition site I contributed an additional 100 hours of construction work.
The bench and handrail below were my first assignment to execute during the work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
