Columbia University Residences, New York w/ Cooper Robertson and Partners
I was the lead designer and project architect for this residential building for Columbia University at 103rd Street and Broadway, Manhattan. The site sits at a bend in Broadway, giving the site greater prominence. This project followed our work on the Columbia School of Social Work, where the team worked hard to design the building to sensitively fit into the neighborhood. For both projects, we developed base drawings of the existing neighborhood buildings so that all studies and renderings of the new building could be shown accurately in context.
The general massing of this building was predetermined by the architect of record, Costas Kondylis. Our charge by Columbia was to develop a facade strategy the coordinated with the residential units, refine the massing where possible, adjust the plan as necessary, design the entrance, and detail the exterior wall.
