Journal Entry 4: Inputs

The hardware device i mentioned from the last post was the iPad. It’s inputs are as follows

1. The Screen: this is the most obvious input and it is the most widely used feature on the iPad. It is a capacitive screen (as opposed to resistive). It is fingerprint and scratch resistant. As mentioned before the screen is the most commonly used input on the iPad. It is used to access the different applications located therein. The primary mode of input for the screen is the finger (no not the middle one). As demonstrated by the image below.

2. The Volume buttons: are located on the sides of the iPad. These twins (what? they are like super identical) in my opinion get the least amount of attention on the iPad. Their primary input job is to either increase the volume of music or movies or to decrease them. To make matters worse this isn’t the only way to increase or decrease the volume. There is  an option to do so on the screen as well. I sense a revolt coming.

Off-duty Volume Rocker.

3. The Mute/Lock Button: This input is located slightly above the Volume twins and it’s function, like it’s name implies is to mute the music or videos or to lock the screen to a preferred view be it landscape or portrait.

4. Wake/Sleep button: is located at the top of the iPad and it’s sole function, again as the name implies, is to wake up the iPad or put it to sleep.

None here either.

5. Home button: this is the second most used input on the iPad (behind the do-it-all Screen). It has several functions. It can be used to exit an app, wake up the iPad (with the help of the screen), switch between apps and activate Siri.
