Simeon Gayle: “An American Publishes a Magazine”

In “An American publish a magazine” Wallace Shawn writes about how highly disappointed he is with the American people and government. Wallace argued that American writers have to use caution when criticizing or being critical of US. To scrutinize America is to be unpatriotic or un-American. The writer explains that Americans see themselves as “Sovereign” and above all others in character. The author talked about pictures that were released showing the degradation of a group of people in deplorable conditions and chains. Wallace showed frustration due to the lack of “Lamentation” by the American people and at the highest level of government, even though others were troubled and concerned by the incident.   Wallace insists that the words US Holds no fascination with him. Wallace believes that the US government thinks only about destruction of cities and to trample over crowd of prostrate people in pursuit of the American dream. Wallace states that he has no choice but to embrace being an American because he benefits from this dream. Wallace also argues that there should be no such thing as a border, and that People should be able to travel freely.   The author talks about the need for Americans to accept everyone for who they are and to embrace the prospect that all lives matters.
