Students, this is a tentative schedule for the semester.  Assignments are subject to change!!!

Note: Homework is listed for the night it is assigned, not the day it is due.  All homework is due by 8 am the day of the following class (if assigned on a Thursday, it’s due by 8 am the next Tuesday and vice versa).  This is because the HW is meant to prepare you for class and I need a little time to look it over before we start!

Intro:

  • Sept 1: “How to read like a Writer” annotation and reflection

Unit One:

  • Sept 6: Read and Respond: Lorde and Olivarez
  • Sept 8: Write paragraph with Concrete, Significant Detail
  • Sept 13: Email Dr. Hall
  • Sept 15: “S^&*ty First Draft”
  • Sept 20: Finish Unit One! (Due Sept 22) 

Unit Two:

  • Sept 22: Read and Respond to “A Talk to Teachers”
  • Oct 6: (yes we have a HUGE gap between classes) Read and respond: “research starts with thesis” and “schools are killing curiosity”
  • Oct 11: Write Reflective Annotated Bibliography (RAB) Intro
  • Oct 13: Research
  • Oct 18: Write First Source Entry
  • Oct 20: Read “Art of Quoting,” write Second Source Entry
  • Oct 25: Write Final Source Entry and Concluwion
  • Oct 27: Compile rough draft of RAB, read it over
  • Nov 1: Finish Final Draft of Unit Two. Due Nov 3

Unit Three:

  • Nov 3: Read and respond: “Annoying ways people use sources”
  • Nov 8: Unit 3 Proposal
  • Nov 10: Reply to colleagues
  • Nov 15: Write a plan for Unit 3
  • Nov 17: Follow your plan!  Bring something to workshop or discuss
  • Nov 22: Discussion/ Workshop. HW: Follow your plan!
  • Nov 29: Finish Unit 3. Due Dec 1

Final Portfolio/ Reflection:

  • Dec 6: Revision Workshop
  • Dec 8: Revision Workshop– Revise first essay
  • Dec 12: Revision one due.
  • Dec 15: Last day party!
  • Dec 19: Optional in-class office hours
  • Dec 22: Final Portfolio/ Reflection due by Noon.  No exceptions! (really)
