The study of cursive writing has been a concept for a long time and it has constantly brought up multiple investigations and research in order to have solid proof and evidence toward the state of cursive writing in the world. Research like this always starts off with children in grade school and studying how they grow from their experiences with cursive writing. In the article ā€œEffects of a Kinesthetic Cursive Handwriting Intervention for Grade 4-6 Studentsā€Ā  by Gwenyth I Roberts, Jodi E Siever and Judith Anne Mair, these researchers took initiative in 2010 to perform research among grade 4-6 students about the effects of cursive writing. They studied whether people who wrote in cursive writing were able to improve their writing skills and writing comprehension such as if they started to write faster and if they enjoyed and are fulfilled with the way their handwriting looks. They were able to receive approval from 2 schools and from health regions. They tried contacting about 72 schools and the students that were registered for the research were students that teachers identified as children who had trouble with their handwriting skills. Students with disabilities were excluded from this research and that would create a different topic for what they are researching. I like how they include the student’s personal responses for their research. This can show people like me and whoever has looked into this that cursive writing can either be personally satisfying or of discomfort to them. After several weeks of analyzing the students they can conclude that ā€œA kinesthetic handwriting intervention may be effective in improving the skills of students with handwriting challenges.ā€ This tells me that weeks of cursive writing for the students that were studied proved to be effective. The students coming out of a short experiment now have a new experience that can prove useful to them as long as they continue to write.

Unit 2 Source entry 1

The study of cursive writing in the early years of primary school has shown it can be effective for a lot of children. In the research article ā€œ Teaching of cursive writing in the first year of primary school: Effect on reading and writing skillsā€ multiple researchers were able to gather multiple children that can write only in cursive and children that can not write in cursive. This study was done in 2019 so this study is not that different from what today’s studies would be. The purpose of this site is to inform people that are interested in cursive writing and talk about the effects in school. The researchers use their own experiments and research data they have collected to provide solid proof to prove their own point of how cursive writing affects children today. This helps the audience to be more informed about this topic and to spread their own research that can be more looked into. The writer of this article finds that ā€œpupils using cursive as the only handwriting type had better results in producing orthographically correct words than students using more types.ā€ This shows that cursive writing can be very useful for a lot of younger children growing up. This can also help create a habit of neater handwriting and this would prove effective in school and in adulthood. To me I never really wouldā€™ve thought that only writing in cursive could make such a big difference in terms of how much of a better writer you can be. I believe I have seen very few people use only cursive writing and I have never personally experienced the effects of only writing in cursive. In the researchers studies, he came to the conclusion that ā€œit is important to support the teaching community to ensure that decisions regarding handwriting automatization are taken at the beginning of the educational process.ā€ To me personally I agree with the researcher’s end of discussion statement because teachings such as cursive writing in school should be clarified more and taught more efficiently. This can cause good writing habits for people growing up and can help make people like me a better writing composition.

Unit 2 Intro Proposals

Iā€™ve always found it hard to write in cursive and to this day I donā€™t really know how to. Iā€™ve had plenty of people try to help me out and I still canā€™t get it down. Perhaps itā€™s because my name is somewhat long itā€™s harder for me to write in cursive or script. I am interested in learning what variants of cursive or script writing and how it can affect society today. Also knowing the reprocutions of writing in script or in cursive and which may be more affective for kids and people of all ages. Over the course of years, researchers and people that are like me look into the present day history of cursive and script writing.
