I became interested in the topic of marijuana because as a kid I was always told that marijuana is bad for you and that everyone should stay away from it. I remember being in elementary school making posters and wearing the color red to promote a drug-free community. As I get older, I start to notice that more and more people do it for their own pleasure. I always wonder why they do it and then I came across some information on how some people have to do it for medical reasons which are understandable, but that didn’t explain why the mass majority of people use marijuana. So I wanted to see how it affects the body and why people love to use this drug so much.

The purpose of making this project was to inform people about the effects of marijuana. I want to tell you the negatives and dangerous effects of marijuana before anyone starts using this drug. The audience I want to direct this message to is adults and adolescents because this is the age where it starts to begin for people to start smoking marijuana or they are already doing it

I chose my genre to be non-fiction picture books because it made the most sense to what I was making for my project. Also, the information inside my project makes my genre makes more sense. It was the best for the audience because it was written in an informative tone. I used a picture book to have a visual effect on the readers to keep them gravitating to the book as they read along.

To start off my project, I jotted down some effects and picked out the 4 most dangerous effects of marijuana before starting to research them. Surprisingly, this process did not take very long because of how dangerous because of the different effects from sources all line up mostly. After that, I went to create my book cover and I used colored pencils to shade, color, and outline the words and drawings. Next, I wrote about the 4 dangers and what the danger was, and how can it affect your health. Finally, I found pictures outlining the symptoms of these effects and glued them inside the book for people to see what it can do to you visually. Finding the pictures when super well for me because they clearly show why you don’t want this disease/issue. Overall this project when well and didn’t have any issues or changes throughout me making this.

I think this project turned out very well because I felt I did a good job of getting my target audience’s attention with my book. With all the time and money and expertise in the world, I would’ve probably made a better-looking book with a hardcover and a scientific analysis of marijuana. What I’m happiest about is how the cover came out because I haven’t drawn it in a long time and it still came out great. This project in my opinion was very easy because it was something I was just genuinely interested in and had fun writing about. I felt ecstatic doing this as a college project because this is a topic that most students would stay away from that I wanted to write about. I see using this in the future because it gives another perspective on a topic that is just written in an essay format when approaching a different type of audience.
