House Mother

Starting the day off cleaning,
Getting my siblings ready for school.
Toiling in the kitchen and dripping with sweat:
Washing and walking and bargaining and labor.
Yet still, you are misunderstood,
Home has been your office for far too long my stay at home mother

You bare the brunt of the family mother,
Having to keep yourself same and the house: our small apartment clean.
Your harsh words and seemingly biased care make you easily misunderstood,
Despite you being the only one actively involved in our schools.
Since you stay at home you must do nothing, your work is not as hard as ‘actual’ labor;
Despite your aching feet, shoulders and a wet shirt full of sweat.

As you start the evening shift, we come home and are able to wash our own sweat.
You ask us how was our day, but how was yours mother?
Of course I already know of your enthusiastic effort and your many labors,
For example last night the curry had spilled, but this morning the stove was clean.
And it shows because we your children have no problem with teachers or supplies for our schools.
Yes I know who you are and what you do even if you are misunderstood.

Others may call you cranky and moody and say you’re too rough so they can continue to ‘misunderstand’.
The silent fears that manifest in the tears you claim to be your sweat,
The constant support and harsh methods you’ve shown your children benefits them in life and in school.
You too were once someone before becoming a mother,
And your own dreams and ambitions you’ve put off or wiped clean.
It never is ‘enough’ the effort of your craft nor the countless hours you lose to this labor.

However, I want you to know that I have seen, appreciate and is grateful for those same labors,
And even when we argue or say hurtful things you’ve never been misunderstood.
That even if your perfect parent record isn’t all spotless and clean,
And even if you hide your tears, anger and emotions with your sweat
You will always and forever be my most beautiful, most favorite and loved mother.
Your nurturing has encouraged me and inspired me to finish and so well at this school.

So that after I graduate and get a job, we can fund you going back to school.
This time you’ll achieve as you labor,
You will be more than a convenient housewife, underappreciated and under paid mother.
You will be able to confidently articulate how you feel stopping all convenient ‘misunderstanding’.
And for once get something other than a ‘thanks mom’ or pity handout for the price of your sweat.
You will be credited for all that you have done, will do and will achieve instead of a pat on the back for keeping the stove clean.

Your struggles in school as a youth left you misunderstood,
While the labor you do is ignored, washed away like a cool shower for your sweat.
As my beautiful, intelligent and hilarious mother, I know that you are cable and deserve so much more than being someone only fit to clean.

I arrive at the facility
Early in the morning, traveling to Long Island
My work is not easy, as an engineer
We work on different projects
At our disposal are various tools
Always up to date on our maintenance

Our engineers are busy at hand with maintenance
Working all throughout the facility
With us, we always carry our tools
The tools I carry belong to the company so I’d leave them in Long Island
Lately many requests to begin on new projects
This is the day as an engineer

You’ll always hear an announcement ‘In need of engineer’
One of us will arrive and begin to maintenance
While they do that others work on projects
Working many spots in the facility
We don’t have only at this facility, but another too in Long Island
However, they work with different types of tools

Although when needed we send or receive tools
Send and received towards our engineers
Shipped to our locations in Long Island
Used to maintenance
Efficiently for each facility
We are all one therefore we share our tools

I am an intern at the DOE
Do you guys know what is my job?
Leneva, Dell, HP, etc. are the computer.
The hardest part of my work is working with a printer.
The easiest part is the internet.
The future task for my work is uncertain.

Do you have any idea why my task is uncertain?
Before I used to don’t know what was the meaning of DOE
An IP address is related to Internet
Proving the tech support for the school is my job
Lot of set is involved while working with the printer
Leneva is my favorite computer.

The school has an old computer.
Working with those computers is so uncertain.
I always get to do most configure for the printer.
After interviewing it took one month for me to get the work at the DOE.
Every day my task doesn’t go the same at my job.
Now we are using IP4 for the internet.

For future networks, experts are planning to use IP6 for the internet.
Even a calculator is considered a computer.
I love what I do for my job.
At my job now I am always ready for uncertainty.
My friend recommended DOE.
Nowadays we all use printers.

I move here when I was five every since I’ve been in NEw york
Driving fast is dangerous
When we need help we Call an ambulance
Not only cops can save lives

The Statue of Liberty is in New York
To have electricity you need an electrician
Same mom and dad, we are brothers

The world can have toxic air
The world can have useless soil
The world can have dirty water
Everywhere can have contamination
My dad who can test it is called a technician
Not only humans can help, we can rely on technology like computers

Everywhere on this earth we can use computers
Why is it the we rely on this thing called air
Why should we become technicians
What would happen to us if we got rid of our soil
Will our government ever do anything about all this contamination
Can we have ever completely have clean water

One day we can help fix our issues with dirty water
Our advancing technologies will help with their computers
If we work together we can get rid of contaminations
We can create new ways to help clean our air
There are multiple ways to help the useless soil
This is where our helpers come in, the technicians

All around the world there are a lot of technicians
They understand how to help clean water
They can fix the useless soil
They need help as well and that’s why the use computers
They use their resources to understand more about air
They can help fix contaminations

I had an internship
It was far, it was in Staten Island
Had to work on computers.
Update the laptops.
Troubleshoot the printers
And fix the phones.

You need an ethernet connection for phones
I learned so much from this internship.
Even though I knew everything about troubleshooting the printers.
I heard they are a lot of IT companies in Staten Island.
Where they give out to employee’s laptops
And also, they give computers.

With time on my hands and not even a dog to talk to, I turned to the computers
The employees at the company have their own phones.
The built-in modem is a chip on the motherboard used primarily in laptops.
IT people with 2 to 3 years of IT experience are required to complete 2 years of an internship
Working that far made me realize that it is nice to work in Staten Island.
At one of the employee desk tables, I had to explain to the lady. When it is difficult to open the paper bail because of the position of the printer head, close the printer.

One of the employees’ desk tables, one the wall straight from him was his pc setup with the printer.
One of the new employees didn’t have a computer.
Most of the offices are in Staten Island.
I had to work on one of the employee phones.
It’s not always easy to find IT Internships.
Based on employee preferences, they can pick any laptop.

just to realize I forgot the money
I ran back towards the office
found my desk filled with invoices
I went towards the computer
but unfortunately knocked over my supplies

as I went to pick up the supplies
I remembered what happened at the bank
I quickly logged off the computer
grabbed the money,
fixed the file of invoices,
and left the office.

as I quickly left the office
I remembered the supplies,
as well as the invoices,
but just ran towards the bank
as I entered the bank with the money
the teller entered the information into the computer

as the teller finished with the computer
I was relieved I didn’t have to go back to the office
now with the money
I could finally buy the supplies
I exited the bank and put everything behind me, especially the pile of invoices.

As I work I see my Supervisor
A friendly guy who acts like a friend

A boss who is a friend
Creates a friendly environment for his employees
I call the supervisor to put change in the register
He counts and records the money
I see the customers happy eating their ice cream
Gets everyone to do their job as a supervisor

Go choose your food says the Supervisor
He gets a food deal with his friend
He sends out free ice-cream
Gets food for the employees
Everyone chips in the food money
The boss exchanges the smaller bill for bigger ones from the register

The day starts at the bar.
Sweeping, mopping until the kitchen.
The next room to clean is the basement.
It’s time to return to the apartment.
There, my mom sees our family.
All of us are doing our own work.

Today is another day full of work.
Again, it begins at the bar.
Another day without help from family.
They enjoy the meal left in the kitchen.
Hopefully, they will clean the apartment.
There’s no need to clean the basement.

There’s an empty basement.
There’s no need to work.
The only thing that needs some TLC is the apartment.
There is no formula to clean unlike the bar.
Sometimes the place to start is the kitchen.
The place where we spend time as a family.

Despite our different paths, we stay a family.
There’s no trash hidden in the basement.
We enjoy the warmth from our kitchen.
Everyone is done for the week from work.
A day free from working at the bar.
To spend a nice relaxing day at the apartment.

Here is my dad,
working in his restaurant.
He will cook the food,
the wok on intense fire,
the drops of hot oil drop on his hands.
Late always he comes home.

Makes me wonder does he misses home?
I wonder because he is my dad.
I once saw his rough hands,
they were formed in his restaurant.
One cause, is the high fire.
Another, the heavy and amount of cook food.

Customers will order for food.
He hardly cook at home.
Does he ever hate this stove fire?
I am not blaming my dad.
I know he work hard in his restaurant.
I just want some rest to be on his hands.

And not just his hands.
A break from cooking food.
A break from his restaurant.
A break to be home.
A break for my dad.
A break from burning fire.

Since I was a child my interest has never been medicine
I never pictured myself dealing with patients
Every day the pile grows bigger, more prescriptions
I already know that before the end of my shift the last hour is for next days orders
The worst it’s the ending of the month, long days of inventory
I ask myself why am I here, then I know I took it to gain experience

Long days looking for jobs, I just wanted to gain working experience
It took me a while to learn and get used to dealing with medicine
I would leave work hours after closing time just trying to finish the inventory
As the days passed, I met new patients
Leading to the next long day having to deal with the new order
There is not a day that goes by, that I don’t deal with piles of prescriptions

Customers will come in, no “Hello” just “Fill my prescription”
While being new, you will hear a lot of “she looks like she doesn’t have much experience”
When Items were not available I’ll place a order
Also adding the low stocked and the new medicine
The nice customers will always outweigh the rude patients
As tired as I would be, last few days I knew what it was for; inventory

A day will be ruined when my boss will mention “Inventory”
A new coworker lead to me showing them how to type prescriptions
Introducing them to all of our patients
This will also allow them to gain more experience
The last steps for training were counting and filling the medicine
As well as being able to successfully submit an order

My life runs through my passion, design
Spending hours looking at the blank screen on the computer
Searching through the depth of my mind trying to be creative
Sacrificing my time for sometimes little money
Satisfaction is everything when i see my work on youtube
On occasion, though I end up with nothing, just me in my room.

My safe haven though is my room
Where I spend most of my time drifting away when I’m not designing
Listening and learning through many videos I find on youtube
Trying to grasp those who are more successful than me all through my computer
Being able to escape the harsh reality of bills, taxes, and work because of money
Instead, expand my thoughts, become more knowledgeable, and more creative

Trying so hard and getting nowhere is part of the pain of being creative
I go out searching for inspiration but i feel odd when im not in my room
But to get far that’s what’s needed, if not it would be a struggle for money
That way i can invest in my career of graphic design
Afford bills like electricity so that way the lights stay on and so does my computer
And continue to work for YouTubers

Sometimes though I feel disrespected by my bosses, YouTubers
Making me dumb down my creativity
So sometimes I shut down my computer
Spend some time with those I love outside my room
With that Changing the scenery in the real world like I would in my designs
And create new experiences to enjoy through my money
