For this project, we created digital compositions demonstrating an understanding of the use of layers and transparency to convey space, overlap, continuity, and meaning to images.

For this two subjects, both will be drawn shapes and photo-based imagery.

Illustrator, & Photoshop with specs 8.5 x 11 Orientation: Landscape or Portrait, was required for this project.

Trying out different shapes in Illustrator.

For Illustrator, I drew a peacock composed of different geometric figures, most of it made of triangles, rectangles and trapezoids. I went with an analogous theme. Then, messed around with the opacity to find the best level of transparency, while also overlapping said shapes.

For photoshop, I combined 3 pictures, using a similar  overlapping and transparency technique. I went with a traveling/night city theme using picture from cities such as Tokyo Japan, New York’s Time Square, and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I wanted to create a vivid, colorful picture capturing all three pictures to show. The idea came personally enjoying walking around the city at night time and seeing the colorful lights. One of the photos combines a woman staring into the three cities beautiful lights.

In conclusion, this project was interesting, fun, and overall gave us the ability to show a more independent creative side. Having to come up with an idea is usually the tricky part. However the steps were self explanatory, and I also made sure everything, from the geometrical shapes to the transparency/opacity of all elements were balanced enough that it would not collide with each other.
