For this project, I practiced how to properly develop my value scale using different charcoal pencils. To understand more about the values I took photos of my hand in three different light settings (light, medium, dark) and then played with the posterize tool in photoshop. Assessed how each image looks between levels 4-7. Afterwards, I was able to apply that to the image of my choice for the artwork. For my image I used level 5 and it separated all gradients in the image.

I used tracing paper to produce details from the image. It was difficult to figure out which parts of the image I wanted especially since it was filled with little details.

I then retraced this onto my Bristol paper and started the painting process. I started with the black gouache paint and slowly incorporated the white gouache paint as I move down the gradient. This was my final product.
