For this project I focused on the full value range scale.
First, I chose a landscape picture and posterize it in photoshop to bring the different contrast of highlights and shadows.
The picture, besides having a lot of detail, it is on the lighter side. The main focused being on the highlighted buildings and the reflection of the water.
After transferring the picture to the Bristol board, I proceeded to number it based on the scale pictured at the beginning. This would help me get an idea of how the finished product would look like in terms of where to add, and blend the gouache paint.
When mixing and painting with gouache, it can be tricky in terms that it is easy to leave heavy brush streaks and create uneven blended tones. The most challenging part was recreating the tones of the water. I also minimized the details to the point that I removed the Pepsi Cola sign . Overall the use of the value scales helped a lot during this painting.
