I choose one of Avicii song “Wake me up” sing by Aloe Blacc. I was released in 2013. It’s not one of my favorite song but it a well-known song some many even after a decade. What inspired my to choose the song, is the story behind it. The idea for the song “Wake Me Up” came to Blacc while he was riding a bus home from Switzerland. And he reflected, “My life is such a dream,” to himself. He said, “Wake me up when it’s over,” and he then began to write the lyrics. The audience didn’t appear to love it when Blacc first performed this song on the Stage of an EDM concert. The next thing you know, everyone is singing, and every artist has done a remix of it. The song brought to me images of dreams, rain, the ocean, and waves as I listened to it. The graphic above gives you an idea of how the song made me feel.

Refine Patterns & Textures

On the basis of my first scratch, I made 12 thumbnails. The majority of Scratch has geometric shapes on purpose, but I just went with the rhythm. As I mentioned, the music and song lyrics brought up images of dreams, rain, the beach, and waves in my head. Example 1 more closely resembles a hypnotic dream. #2: A guitar sound can be heard at the beginning of the song. #3: A little flower pattern serves as the music’s beat.

Deliver:

I choose six thumbnails from a total of 12 that I believe best capture the song. This was a fun project, usually I don’t pay much attention to the lyrics, but this forced me to do so in order to find their meaning and create a drawing that would represent the music. Although others may interpret the song differently than I did. I had no trouble thinking of patterns, but I feel like I could have done better. I wish I were to spend more time creating unique patterns and thinking outside the box.
